Romeo and Juliet Synthesis Paper Sometimes it is not about what people want to read, but about why everyone should read it. A lot of people do not realize the importance of Shakespeare and his literature. A great example is Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare has written a lot of plays that everyone loves to read and watch. Students everywhere are required to read Romeo and Juliet in 9th grade. Nobody ever wonders why they have to read Shakespeare though. Not only should Romeo and Juliet be in the 9th grade curriculum, but more of Shakespeare’s plays should be in it too. Shakespeare is a part of history and is read throughout the entire world.
Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, where a boy and a girl fall in love with each other during a party hosted by Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet. The two teenager decide to get marry, despite their family's hate for each other and only meeting each other a few hours ago. However, the Montagues (Romeo’s Parents) and the Capulets end their feud after they discover that their children killed themselves. Romeo and Juliet’s death was caused by Juliet’s parents, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence.
Romeo and Juliet is a play about two lovers who have to risk their lives in order to demonstrate their love and will to stay together, regardless the feud between their families. By the end, the death of Romeo and Juliet finally bring the reconciliation to these two families. It is fate that the two most shall-not meet people fall in love and it love that eventually won against hatred. Since then, there have been many different versions of Romeo and Juliet, whether it was for film, stage, musicals. These different recontextualised adaptions change the original play by many ways, some modernise the language, environment, props as well as changing the original characteristics of some characters. Throughout the course of the tragedy, each of the characters influence both Romeo and Juliet in one way or another. Although many of those characters have some kind of hold on the naive Juliet, they have a stronger hold on the somewhat credulous Romeo. This sway that they have over Romeo causes him to make several decisions that are rash and impulsive. The Nurse and Friar Laurence are kind but powerless characters who inadvertently contribute to the tragic ends of Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse is ignorant and unthinking as she enjoys and sets up the secret marriage, but she does not think about the consequences or take responsibility for them. The Nurse helps Juliet to marry Romeo when the Nurse knows it is forbidden. The Friar is wise and insightful when he marries Romeo and Juliet, but he simply does not have the power or the foresight to stop the tragic events that come after the marriage. Friar Laurence agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, even though it is risky. These two characters share good intentions and love for Romeo and Juliet, and share the responsibility for their deaths.
In ninth grade, we are required learn about Shakespeare and read one of his plays, Romeo and Juliet. Some people say that ninth graders should be required to learn about Shakespeare but others disagree and say that learning Shakespeare is irrelevant and that there’s more important things to learn about other than a book about two teens that fell in love at first sight. Shakespeare should not be in the ninth grade curriculum because there are more important things and events to learn about other than Shakespeare, such as the Holocaust but there are also reasons why Shakespeare should be in the ninth grade curriculum.
