There are several ways that the time period of the Romeo and Juliet movie affects the way the audience views the story. One example of this is that it is a little more acceptable for Juliet to talk back to her parents. It is not a respectful thing for her to do, but because of when the movie takes place it is not emphasized as much. Another thing that is different is the use of guns instead of swords. I believe the director used this because people do not use swords in this time period, and the audience can connect with the characters in the movie better because of these changes.
