The main character in the story, “Odyssey”, is a male named Odysseus. Along his very long journey home to Ithaca he encounters many woman characters along the way. Each of them has different characters, parts, and roles in the story. Three of the female characters are Circe, Athena, and Penelope.
Circe is an enchantress goddess who lives on the island of Aeaea. She has a charming voice and is enticing. Her role is to win Odysseus’ men over, so she can turn them into pigs. She wants to influence and interfere with Odysseus’ journey. She manages to keep Odysseus with her for a year. She warns Odysseus that the Sirens will sing, and it will be irresistible to his men. She also created a potion with evil potions for Odysseus and his men, it didn’t work on Odysseus.
As Odysseus makes his way back to Ithaca he is helped by the female character, Athena. Athena is smart, kind, and loyal. She likes to help others, and she protects those that she cares about. She advises Odysseus to disguise himself as a beggar when he reached Ithaca so he would not be recognized and harmed by the suitors. She urged Odysseus to take the battlefield and fight the suitors that were after his wife, Penelope, and his home. She uses her powers to help Odysseus on the battlefield by turning the suitor’s arrows away. …show more content…

She is the classic wife of Odysseus. She is a devoted wife to her husband waiting patiently for his return, she is a woman of fidelity. She has to create a contest to get rid of the suitors, so they would not seek her anymore. The contest is a way for her to deceive the suitors. She decided to have an archery contest and the winner could seek her. She knew if she used Odysseus bow the suitors would not win.
