Music comes in different forms and formats. There are also different genres of music such as R&B, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Pop, Hip Hop, and Country. Pieces can also have different moods which can result in the listener feeling different emotions. Not only that but musicians tend to compose pieces of music for specific occasion such as a death or environmentals disaster. The piece “The Rite of Spring” written by Igor Stravinsky on May 29, 1913, in Paris, France was first performed as a ballet by Les Ballets Russes. This piece is a overall dissonant piece but fits in well with the ballet. Although this piece is overall dissonant, there are some consonant moments where the mood is changed from choatic to peaceful. This piece is based on a tribal ritual of ancient Pagan gods and was disliked by many audiences. I dislike this piece of music due to the chaotic and disturbing beatings of the drums. This piece of music gives me the image of a horror scene and makes me feel as if I am being watched. This piece reminds me of the Vietnam War because it is very chaotic and dissonant with the tone fortissimo and pianissimo. The musical piece “Wiggle Cover” by Postmodern Jukebox can fit in the genre jazz and can be placed in the time of the Jazz era. This song sets off a upbeat feeling and makes me want to get on my feet dance. This song could best be played at a concert or any kind of fast paced dance. This piece of music can best be described as a consonant and pleasant sounding piece. An additional song dictated by Krzysztof Penderecki named the “Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima” was written as said in the title for the victims of Hiroshima.
