The following proposal has been submitted for review by Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. With the current international move to Hangzhou, China and five year strategic plan to expand operations to Shanghai an upgrade to the current information systems is imperative. Careful consideration has been given to the current systems in place and consensus amongst the Team is that Riordan will greatly benefit from an upgraded Management Information System. Upon review of your growing business and the multiple functional systems currently in place, it is vital that Riordan provide its management team with the tools they will need to be successful now and into the future. A management information system (MIS) is an information collection and analysis system that facilitates access to program and participant information."(mays.tamu.edu, 2013) This system is usually computerized. Businesses use MIS at all levels of operation to collect, process and store data. Management uses this data in the form of information needed to carry out the daily operations of the business. Everyone who works in business, from someone who pays the bills to the person who makes employment decisions, uses MIS. In fact, many (if not most) companies concentrate on the alignment of MIS with business goals to achieve competitive advantage over other companies. "The major components of the MIS are the database, the model base, and the user interface. The database is used to store important data, the model base has the required statistical models in order to analyze the large amounts of data, and the user interface allows the user of the software to navigate through it and use it with ease."(mays.tamu.edu, 2013) The implementation of the MIS will help... ... middle of paper ... ... these concerns. The next issue of focus is on information system security because it is one of the most pressing challenges confronting all present day organizations. Information system security is very critical to the success of business operations. It is essential for us to find effective ways to maintain secure information, avoiding unauthorized access, preventing intrusions, and stopping secret information disclosure. The importance of a state of the art Management Information System cannot be overlooked. The system will not only allow management to better understand their department's contributions but also allow them to take the appropriate actions necessary to meet customer needs. The proposed system will ensure that Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. not only meets but consistently exceed its strategic and tactical goals within the global business community.
