The Mission of a Man In the book of Richard Whelan, Self-Reliance, Whelan had rewritten the “Spiritual Laws” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Whelan had elaborated some ideas of what Emerson was trying to say in his essay. Emerson states that divine determines everything and that divine power goes in each atom in the universe which is why we are all connected. He also states that people should check their soul and go in that right direction which will lead them to an excessive success. Spiritual law is the law of nature where every person has a talent which is their call, and when they find their universal soul and uses their talent without resistance, they will gain success that they can enjoy. They should go with the flow and stop resisting. Emerson states “If you would not be known to do anything, never do it ”(pg. 55). It shows that people should not try to be someone you are not. If people go in another direction, they will experience resistance which will be hard for them to gain the success they wanted, but when they went in the right direction which there is no resistance, it will be easier for them to fulfill their mission. It is better if you do not choose and just go with the flow. People are free to be what they want to be. Some college students are undecided on what major they wanted to take. There are also some students who had already decided what their course is but at the end, they change their mind and chose a different course. Some students take course take courses that they think will make them successful even though they have a talent for something else. This students will only make it harder for them to be successful. For example, a student has a talent to draw and paint but he / she thinks that it will not make much money for his/her future so the student decided to take a different major that will surely make more money. This student will only have difficulties on taking that course but if the student changes it to the major he/she really wanted to take then it will be easier for him to finish that
