On August 28, 1936, over 250,000 people gathered around the Lincoln memorial in Washington D.C to witness and listen to Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech. Those who were there at the time did not realize it would become one of the most famous speeches to be given throughout the entire Civil Rights movement. Dr. King became the face and leader of the Civil Rights movement, following in Gandhi’s nonviolent ways to bring about change and peace.
