Can you imagine yourself living in a room the size of a bathtub for the rest of your life? Would you like to be taken away from your mother and family to the other side of the world?Would you like to be deprived from food each day? Would you like to watch people you know die around you because they are not good enough for certain people? No? well these are the few things that happens to animals placed in seaworld. Seaworld is one of the largest corporations across the world. Seaworld is shown as a place where children and adults can enjoy a day filled with exploring and meeting sea animals up close and personal. When in reality these people are blinded from the truth by the lies they are told by the instructors and the tour guides these lies such as the life span of the animals what the animals are really like in the wild how friendly they are at sea world and not in the wild and many more false facts about the animals are constantly told to the public when the are visiting and touring around this disgusting false “theme” park. …show more content…
Seaworld tells you and makes you believe that they have rescued these animals from “harmful” and “dangerous” conditions that they were living in in the wild. But why are they not telling you the truth ? because the truth would lead this multi million worldwide corporation to lose money and
Among the many things that individuals enjoy doing with their families, visiting amusement parks is at the top of the list. Sea World is a multi-billion dollar chain of marine animal parks, aquariums, and animal theme parks. (Wikipedia) When people are watching the rehearsed performances that the animals and the trainers do, the animals and the trainers seem to be happy. Witnessing the interaction between the animals and the trainers can remind individuals of the beauty of nature and it serves as entertainment.
I am sure almost all of you have either been to or heard of SeaWorld. Today I am going to tell you about what they do to their orcas that they are trying to hide. I chose this topic after watching a documentary called “Blackfish” that goes into the behind the scenes of how SeaWorld treats its animals. I have since done further research online to prepare for this presentation. This is an important topic because you should know what kind of company you are funding and behaviors you are endorsing when you go on your vacations to this destination. Today I am going to persuade you that SeaWorld is corrupt and maltreats its animals, specifically the orcas. First, I will talk about the specific way the orcas are treated and how it affects them
The trainers, along with Cowperthwaite, believe having them in a captivity like SeaWorld is inhumane. I agree with this documentary, Blackfish. This documentary gave a perfect visual representation of why I do not like having animals in a cage or in a small area. Having animals captive, working hard, and hardly fed is wrong, especially when only allowing them in a small area to roam. Watching this documentary made me feel sympathy towards these poor animals that must go through this harsh life style.
The most effective piece of this documentary, however, was neither the structure of the film nor the specific questions that one is forced to answer regarding the ethical treatment of these killer whales, but the overall questions of whether or not these corporations should be allowed to continue their cycle of abuse toward the animals and whether or not we, as patrons, should encourage their behavior by giving them a monetary profit every day, every month, and every year. Ignorance is forgivable, but with the knowledge given in this documentary: the final two questions raised should be able to answer themselves.
For 50 years SeaWorld has entertained park guests with numerous stunts involving the majestic sea creature, the orca, also referred to as the killer whale, and their human trainers. What the on-lookers don’t see at these shows is what goes on behind the scenes: how the whales got there in the first place, and the conditions in which they are housed.
An orca, more commonly known as a killer whale, is currently one of the largest marine animals held in captivity. Countless arguments are being made, supporting and opposing captivity of orcas to be exploited as circus animals in theme parks around the world. Throughout recent history, Sea World trainers have been injured and killed by the orcas and the whales, and the whales themselves have been observed as severely depressed. If Sea World releases the whales, they would undergo an immense economic downfall and the whales would be too weak to survive in the wild if they were freed. Since the first Sea World park opened in San Diego, California in 1964, common questions have arose concerning the well-being of orcas in captivity, the dangers of humans training them, the physical capability of whales theoretically being released, and the psychological differences between whales living in the wild versus whales living in Sea World's confinement.
"Hey mom!" "Yes, my dear?" "It's starting to look like that Orca wants to drown its trainer." "Oh no sweetie. It's just your imagination." But what if it's not?
Although SeaWorld presents itself as a family establishment full of fun “educational” activities. However, these activities harm animals physically and emotionally.
The whale Tilicum who is responsible for multiple deaths of trainers is still in captivity and still performs in shows. He now has no life left in him and for hours will still sit in the same spot. This is no way to treat a living thing and in no way should wild animals like this be put into captivity. The bottom line is that these animals are living mammals and should not be put into situations where they are starved and kept in extremely small spaces to live out their lives. Companies like Sea World should no longer have whale shows and should release all of the whales that will be able to survive into the wild. Sea World would be able to survive without their whale show, and even though it is one of the biggest sources of revenue the park can make money in other endevures.
In the passage, “After SeaWorld, a ‘Blackfish effects’ on circuses and zoos?,” Kelly Wallace explains and gives quotes about the ongoing debate of how aquariums, circuses, and zoos should be handled. Described as the “Blackfish effect” by Lange, many countries including Spain, Mexico, and the United States have already banned such things as bullfighting, animal circuses, and the tool called bullhook. The documentary, “Blackfish effect,” based on the “death of experienced SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau after she was pulled underwater by a 12,000-pound orca,” completely wiped out the public's opinion about how it was fair to kill and exploit animals for entertainment. SeaWorld had became “financially prudent” because their reputation was flushed down the drain after the
It all began with good intentions. People thinking that they can control these animals and not expect any negative impacts. It was all due to wanting to explore and entertain with the animals. However, not all animals are meant to be taken from the wild to be show animals. After many years of unfair ways, SeaWorld is doing the right thing by closing down the whale exhibit even if it isn’t by choice because it is unhealthy for both the humans and animals involved.
Thesis Statement: Closing SeaWorld’s doors would be unjust, however; SeaWorld can repair its image by providing excellent care for its current residents and by shifting the business model from entertainment to rescue, rehabilitate and release at all locations.
Seaworld is a giant marine life theme park. The greatest attraction to these many theme park would be those killer whales. In fact, these killer whales are the face of the park. As gigant as these mammals are, seaworld is keeping them in some pretty tight quarters. Mr. Jett and Mr.Ventre says “Wild killer whales can swim a hundred miles daily as they socialize, forage, communicate, and breed. In stark contrast, with little horizontal or vertical space in their enclosures, captive orcas swim only limited distances, with most spending many hours surface resting.” The animals don't have the freedom they need. Also when taking the whales out of their natural habit the whales tend to be depressed and not as heath in that situation. They need their freedom in the big ocean blue. Bring them into the small living units, breeding whales in captivity all for the entertainment of humans. At young ages the calves are taken away from their mothers on to a new seaworld park. Mothers of the calves have even been seen denying their offspring.
Disney World is an educational wonderland. Disney World was founded October 1, 1971 by Roy O. Disney and Walt Disney. It wasn’t even thought of until four years after the first park Disneyland was opened in Anaheim, California. Walt Disney productions began looking for land for a second park and eventually found the perfect spot. Disney World is an entertainment complex in Orlando, Florida with four distinctly themed amusement parks, two water parks, and over ten resorts. According to Disney’s millions of guest, it is the master of “edu-tainment,” a way of entertaining and educating guest at the same time. Disney has a large selection of ways to “edu-tain” its guest. Its history, science, and animal exhibits are just a few ways children will learn while having fun. A Disney vacation teaches children new information and reinforces what children are currently learning in school. Disney world has many educational opportunities at its three parks, Magic kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot.
Just take into consideration what happens when you are stuck in the same room with someone for a long period of time, especially at the end of a bad day. Who’s to say that they don’t feel the same way, but as long as Sea World is making money, then who cares, right? Sea World has ten captive Orcas, seven of which were born in captivity and it is said that they wouldn’t survive in the open ocean. This wouldn’t be a problem if you wouldn’t have taken their parents out of the ocean and left them to do things on their own in the first place. Sea World claims that they “couldn’t love their animals any more”.
