Renaissance Literature
The word Renaissance is a French term that means rebirth. Ancient literature and culture was in a deep sleep but reawaken with bright new ideas and customs. Literature was able to flourish when Constantinople fell in 1453. The inventions of written literature, the printing press, and theaters allowed the Elizabethan Period to thrive by creating the Printing Press, having the royal families influence literature, and educating the poor by increasing their literacy.
Popular books and novels impacted the education and culture of the Renaissance era. One of the most famous novels written in the Renaissance era was The Decameron that was written by Giovanni Boccaccio. The Decameron has over 100 tales that showed the view of the plague in the “uncivilized East” (Giovanni Boccaccio’s “The Decameron”). One of the most important impacts of Decameron is that it is the only remaining description of the Black Plague of 1348 ("Literature, Arts, and Medicine Database."). Boccaccio’s novel impacted the response of how religion was viewed differently on the people. It frightened many people and made them suspicious on how the Pope, royalty and even lords were dying from the plague. It also showed the different characteristics of men and women. However, Boccaccio gave more credibility to women by saying that women have a more advance role in certain areas where men don’t (Giovanni Boccaccio’s “The Decameron”). The Decameron was a story that began with ten young adults, seven women and three men, which ran away from the plague (Bosco). Giovanni Boccaccio stated that women work harder, are more lustful, and more cunning.
Other famous novels included Gargantua and Pantagruel which are comic novels written by Francois Rabelai...

Knowing about the past helped make improvements within those areas and know not to make the same mistakes again. Translators are people that were one of the most important people for they got past knowledge into English and changed the future.
The renaissance literature was able to unite the rich and the poor and give a proper education to both class statues. I did prove my thesis because I used multiple examples that backed up my thesis for it let the reader know how the inventions and the support of the royal family made people want to thrive for an education. The rebirth of knowledge led to much improvement that the world even today is still doing and advancing to a new goal.
