Reflective Essay Have you ever wondered what your cultural identity was? Or what people want to label you because of the way you look? Many people can have more than one culture, some people have up to two or three cultures. Like me i’m Mexican and Native American, but I started questioning my culture when people would ask me if I really was Mexican. When I was in elementary school my classmates didn't believe me when I said I was mexican they thought I was joking. It would hurt my feelings because my own classmates would laugh at me when I would tell them, so I stopped telling people my culture so I wouldn’t get laughed at. They also wouldn’t believe me because I wouldn’t wear the “basic” things like a gold necklace, gold hoops, I wouldn’t dress like if I was mexican. I didn’t speak spanish until about 6th grade and even then some people would believe me, but some would still question me about it. My mom wasn’t that much of a big help either because she had bright red hair, a lot of tattoo’s, and she worked a lot. Most mexican moms are stay at home moms and have their husbands work, but my mom is the complete opposite she is always working supporting us and is really young. Somebody may have really curly hair like an African American person would, but doesn’t mean that that person is that rae. People are always going to be judging each other whether we like it or not there isn't anything we can do, they will always try and label us for something that we are not and we shouldn’t let that change how we feel about our culture. I am proud to be Mexican and Native American! I will not let people try to bring me down or label me anymore. So neither should you, don’t worry what they have to say about you as long as you are happy and know your true colors are, don’t worry what other people have to say about
