What happens to the dead? Where do they go? Do you really believe they leave the Earth? I believe the dead remain on the Earth to go around and peacefully, or horrendously, wander aimlessly. Since I believe the dead don’t just leave the Earth when they die, I should explain myself. The dead are not really dead when they leave their bodies, their spirits are here. The spirits know they are spirits and they go about their everyday lives. They can go between worlds or be in one or the other. I have no reason to believe anything else because it’s my opinion. He died of a heart attack in Las Vegas, Nevada, where him and my grandmother had moved to way before I was born. Anyway, I was at a wake. Everyone was wearing black and they seemed sad, but I had no clue why. The sadness, on some just looked like anger or remorse, the expressions had changed through the furthest of family members to my grandfather. I do not understand these faces, still to this day; my grandfather was mean, but very magnificent. It was time, my mother patiently took mine, and my brother’s hand and slowly walked us to the casket. My brother is 4 years older than I, so he understood. His face went from a happily mingling boy to a sad, depressed young man in about an instant. We approached the casket and my mother picked my chunky, short body up to see my grandfather’s made up body. I had not known what was going on, to me, he looked like he was sleeping. I knew he was not because my grandfather had the snore of one thousand angry horses. Something was wrong, I felt the need to cry and panic at the same time. My mother took me out and explained everything to me. Differing Functions in Popular Culture It only makes sense that there are countless novels and films focused on the afterlife when we consider the human race 's collective interest in what happens after death. Several popular movies have presented different versions of the afterlife, each with their own purpose. Beetlejuice (1988) tells the story of two individuals who pass away in their home, and must navigate their new existence in the afterlife by reading a book entitled Handbook for the Recently Deceased. In this movie, the two deceased individuals seem to be in an intermediate realm between Earth and the Netherworld (similar to Hell); they are in regular contact with a girl living in their previous home, but they also visit the Netherworld
Although death seems to be a theme for many literary poems, it also appears to be the most difficult to express clearly. Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “death” as, “A permanent cessation of all vital function: end of life.” While this definition sounds simple enough, a writer’s definition goes way beyond the literal meaning. Edwin Arlington Robinson and Robert Frost are just two examples of poetic writers who have used death successfully as the main theme of their works. Robinson, in the poem “Richard Cory,” and Frost in his poem, “Home Burial,” present death in different ways in order to invoke different feelings and emotions from their readers.
Experiencing a sudden death of a loved one is one of the most difficult life experiences to endure. Sudden death is a shock, which leads families to grief stricken numbness, sorrow and sadness. A person who loses someone significant in his or her life goes through a process called grief it is the psychological process while bereavement is the actual state of suffering the loss. When we suffer emotionally we experience pain, guilt and anger, emotions are the response of the bereaved. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate an understanding of bereavement as it pertains to living with a chronic health challenge and reflect this knowledge as it relates to my resource client living with chronic obstruction pulmonary disease (COPD). Using a descriptive review of five articles will reinforce an understanding of the concept and delineate the theoretical components of bereavement. “Everyone who is bereaved experiences grief in their own way, but just as there are specific issues associated with bereavement of sudden death so there are specific issues for particular people” (Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2014). There is neither right nor wrong way for a bereaved survivor to grieve.
The "right to die" argument is building moral, ethical and legal issues. The proponents for physician aid in dying are arguing from the perspective of compassion and radical individual autonomy. However, we cannot take the life of another human being in our hands and play the role of God. The case against physician-assisted suicide, which is essentially a moral case ("thou shall not kill; thou shall not help others to kill themselves"), is straightforward and clear.
In 1 Corinthians 15:54-57, it tells us that we will leave our bodies and go to heaven through Jesus Christ and live forever. It sounds very straight forward but what happens after death in heaven? In all three holidays- Halloween, All Saints Day, and Dia de Los Muertos- it tells us they believe either the dead spirts come back for a day to terrorize them or to celebrate their death. In Ecclesiastes 12:7 it tells us how we will not come back to Earth but our spirit will return to God in heaven.
The objective of this paper is to explore the relation between death anxiety and individual’s self-esteem. “Death Anxiety” and “Self-Esteem” will be the main variables of the research. Death anxiety can be defined as the realization of inescapability of death, which leads many people to experiencing deep sense of terror (Harmon-Jones et al., 1997). Humans are unique due to their ability to learn and adapt to live with an understanding of their mortality. It is a task for the cultural systems to symbolize death and provide a meaning for its occurrence, furthermore to interpret its superiority over human life (Becker, 1973). Death anxiety is a multidimensional concept, which revolves around fear and anxiety related to the reality of dying and expecting it to happen. This fear might be based on various emotional, cognitive and motivational components that depend on the development stage and sociocultural life events (Letho, 2009). Second concept in this research - “Self-Esteem” is defined as confidence and satisfaction in oneself, self-respect” (Merriam-Webster). In this research self-esteem will be viewed from two sides: Intrinsic and Extrinsic, since individual’s self-esteem consistency depends on both – internal and external factors as it is specified in Contingencies of Self–Worth Scale. In this case, measurements were conveyed through an analysis of internal and external sources of self-esteem, which are: approval of others, physical appearance, dominating over others in competition, academic competence, family love and support, being a virtuous or moral person, and God’s love (Crocker et al., 2003).

Nearly every health care professional has experienced a situation dealing with death or dying. I have been very fortunate to have known my maternal and paternal grandparents and great-grandparents. We enjoy a close family and always have. Sadly, my first experience with a close death was when my paternal grandma died at the age of sixty-four of colon cancer. Life after death is a topic of controversy in which Bertrand Russell and John Hick discusses the idea of whether it is possible to have life after death. Russell addresses his argument against the idea through his brief essay titled “The Illusion of Immortality” (1957). In addition, Hick also discusses the topic through his work “In Defense of Life after Death” (1983) of why life after death is a plausible idea. In this paper I will be discussing Russell’s argument against the belief of life after death. As well, I will also be addressing the opposing view by explaining Hick’s argument in defense of life after death. My goal in this paper is to highlight through the analysis of life after death how Russell in my opinion holds the strongest position.
Why do always assume what someone is from when we first hear about them? A lot of us end up assuming what someone looks like as well as what they might be like. We always do this and it just isn't right to do that. We do the exact same with Death. Though not everyone will do this, there are some who will.
