In this class I learned about a lot more of the background and complications in regard to psychiatry than I had known in the past. I already knew quite a bit about psychiatry from my psychology class a couple of semesters ago and I have always had an interest in psychology in the past and had done a lot of research about it, but had never really paid much attention to the history of it before. While I of course knew that it had a history, but had just never paid attention to it, I had never considered the philosophy of it. I had never even considered that there may be different viewpoints or that there may be differing ethical/moral concerns. I particularly enjoyed talking about the trolley problem, I think that is a very intriguing question. I think that each person’s answer really shows a lot about their personality and how they view life. My perspective is that we should try to save as many people as possible, even if that means making a tough decision such as pulling the lever, so as to save five lives from danger and instead killing one. Sadly, you lose that life that wasn’t on the line originally, but you save five others that were, but it is four lives more than what would have been saved before. Most people, I believe would have the same answer as me at first, then they consider other things, like the fact that they are intentionally killing a person, instead of just letting the trolley take its original course and killing the five lest they be involved. So, instead of saving four more lives, the average person, would instead let the five die, preserving their belief in their innocence, claiming their lack of involvement in the situation, yet in actuality, when posed with a tough but rational decision, chose to run away and let those in danger get
