I started my Internship with high expectancy. Immigration is one of the fields that I consider more interesting and after the internship, I probably have found the area in which I want to develop my professional career. My objective was assist at least 30 immigrants to prepare immigration documents. Supervisor to evaluate documents for accuracy and completeness based upon legal standards and immigrants’ factual situation. Completed by November 4, 2016. This objective was fully accomplished by September 28, 2016. However, after complete it, my supervisor asked me to volunteer at least once a month and remotely with some duties, to which I gladly accept, considering the importance of this experience to my professional projection.
The tasks assigned to me varied according to the program that I was working with, which depended upon the day I went. Esperanza has different programs through which they help the immigrant community. My supervisor is in charge of two of those programs, so I worked with her in both. The first one was the Court Help Desk in Los Angeles Immigration Court. I learned a lot and had the opportunity to know how the organizations that give services to vulnerable population work. They expressed to me they were very happy about the work I did for them. They said the most they value were my professionalism and my Spanish language skills. Colombian Spanish is highly respected among people who speak Spanish and when I was in the Immigration Court Help Desk Spanish was the most spoken language. I love the experience, It motivated me greatly to find a job in this field where, I feel I can develop my professional skills, but also I can help people with difficult situations through the several legal resources designed to that
