Reflection Of Plato And Socrates

For my paper I have chosen Plato and Socrates as my most liked philosophers. The idea that I found most important is how "reason can show us the best way to live"(Haberman & Stevenson, pg 79). Plato and Socrates both agree on this idea since Plato saw Socrates as his role model. For example, "Socrates, whose teaching deeply impressed Plato"(Haberman & Stevenson, pg 79) helped Plato see that with every decision a consequence could arise and if so it was better to face it than just avoiding it. Even though for the most part people lack in controlling their emotions and desires which makes them take the wrong initiative.

For instance, when "the soul of leisure lies in celebration"(Lecture, Week 6). I can apply this idea to my life by using leisure as a part of celebration for every time I overcome an obstacle that I found quite challenging. I think at some point in life leisure would be beneficial and would help me find more free time to do the things that I enjoy doing the most. In reviewing Plato and Socrates thoughts even with the alternative choice the main choice is what also got me through this class as well. I did find this class interesting with the reading material and to me happened to be well worth it. Overall, Socrates happened to have the most influence on my thought process because of how he saw the way to live as something more than just living well. Socrates made more of life with his ways of teaching. In viewing Socrates I was able to think more critically about things and spend more time analyzing more possible outcomes to a problem. I really enjoyed how Plato used Socrates as such an influence in his life as well. To the fact that this class has come to an end so quick is still surprising to me to say the least. I'm really glad that I enjoyed this class and I never had a chance to think anything like it being boring.
