The music video for the song “Dani California” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers migrates through various eras of rock and roll, all of which have influenced the musical sound of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It begins with rockabilly and follows rock history through to 90’s grunge with the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers dressed as iconic bands from each rock and roll era. Although some of the artists they dress as are difficult to recognize, the Red Hot Chili Peppers successfully portray the message that many rock and roll sub-genres have contributed to the Red Hot Chili Peppers sound. The music video begins with a black and white curtain opening to reveal the Red Hot Chili Peppers dressed in Elvis-esque attire rocking their hips in the way of The King. The Red Hot Chili Peppers successfully convey the message that rockabilly contributed to their overall sound with their Elvis impersonation because The King of Rock and Roll is the face of rockabilly music. The notion that rockabilly has contributed to the Chili Peppers sound is obvious in the chorus of their song “Around The World” when lead singer Anthony Kiedis croons the phrase, “I know I know for sure that life is beautiful around the world. Loose sweaters, candles, and rugs that appear on set help to enforce the grunge reference and evidence of grunge influence can be heard in the songs “Soul To Squeeze”, “Strip My Mind”, and “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”. The twang of the guitar in all three of these songs is traditional of grunge music and the rhythmic chanting in “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” along with the melodic oh’s and yeah’s of “Strip My Mind” add to the underground vibe that exudes from grunge
