Rational 2E Organizing Physical Space
This classroom arrangement and rational demonstrates my ability to organize a classroom’s physical space to be conducive to learning and provide access to instruction for all students. According to Danielson 2E, organizing physical space allows all students a safe and accessible learning environment which works to both enhance curriculum delivery and manage the traffic flows that accompany its learning activities. A score of proficient signifies that the teacher has used physical resources skillfully and the classroom arrangement supports classroom routines and academic endeavors. The horseshoe seating arrangement is great because it allows the teacher to make eye contact with all students and move into close proximity of individuals students without have to weave in between the desks of other students. This design gives the message of teacher presence and authority. Yet, that classroom focus can be easily shifted, when it is a student’s turn to speak or present. This alternate arrangement would be preplanned by the teacher and have student groups or four or five. I would put tape on the floor, signifying the general location of each group and have a number assigned to each desk and student. I will have digital floor plan and photos of the desks in both arrangements, so I could display them on the smartboard when it is time for the students to change desk arrangements. In student groups I would match students of varying abilities, personalities and gender. Note that when students were sitting in the U shape, in their assigned seats, they would still be close to their group members, so switching from one arrangement to the other should go relatively smooth, after training and practice. I would also switch the members of student groups a few times a year, so students have the opportunity to build various relationships and friendships throughout the
