Randai performances have such a unique movement because there are the most important elements in Randai that make the Randai looks different from other performances. The visual of Randai performance is a combination of alternating dances, acted scenes and songs. However, the circular dances are called Galombang. Galombang is a feature of martial arts movements as well as a quite amazing and totally unique type of pants-slapping percussion called tapuak. The tapuak patterns have become the signature feature of Randai theatre. They are usually performed in a remarkably energetic manner by slapping special pants while dancing. The one who lead the performance is called tukang goreh. The tukang goreh is a main leader in the performance and tukang …show more content…
When the singers are singing and they are accompanied by flute, there is an instrument that we called saluang is played using the circular breathing and it creating a continuous sound. Besides that, the acting style kinds a stylized line delivery in eight, nine or ten syllables derived from the storytelling. In Randai, each of the line is accompanied by explicit steps and signals based on silat which is similar to the steps and signals performed in the circular Galombang dance. Furthermore, the first music is played during Randai is the vocal from gurindam which is singing by the singers in the motion circular. Moreover, there are a bit sounds of the poems they sing and sounds like “hep”… “tahun… “tih”… “hep-ta” and “ais-ta” while clapping hands, Galombang and clapping thighs. There are many functions of dendang in Randai and one the dendang is known as dendang persembahan is to respect the audiences and to get bless from Allah. However, there is a specific system in dendang in tradition of Minangkabau but there is not very clear about the system. Every people who had been as pendendang had different styles and they have their own styles in making the dendang good to be listened by others. Throughout the history of Japanese culture, there are many unique and refined art forms that have survived over many centuries. One of the oldest and most famous examples is the ancient Japanese court dance of Bugaku. Originated in 7th century Japan, Bugaku, along with the Gagaku, the classical Japanese court music, has carved its place into history as one of the longest surviving traditional performance pieces. It’s perseverance serves as a symbol of the importance of music and art in a countries lineage. From its introduction into Japanese society, to the contemporary evolution of art from the East, Bugaku and Gagaku continue to stand as pillar of historical and artistic relevance.
On September 2nd, I experienced one of the most enjoyable folk dances, known as contra dance, at the First Baptist Church. Due to my cultural and religious background, this experience was new to me and full of mystery. However, it led me to wonder how social music, especially contra dance, is powerful enough letting strangers dance and communicate with each other in a perfect harmony.
youths and maidens who move and turn in couples or singly to the sound of pipes and zithers. These dances are full
It is said that ancient times were simpler than the present day. Life was simply about surviving. But of course, change is inevitable. Humans constantly feel the need to expand grounds or to go where conditions are best suited for them. Eventually, a tribe or race would have met another on their own. But what was life like before the different tribes and races met? In present day research, it is seen that though there was no contact whatsoever, separated ancient tribes and/or races were deemed similar. Somehow, human minds branch off into different views of the same topic, depending on where the people are located. Take the Hawaiians and Middle Easterners for example, they remained on opposing sides of the world and yet they have similar forms of
In the heart of Miami, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) dance majors put on a performance called The Art of Dance. Under the direction of Michelle Grant- Murray, guest choreographers challenged the students of MDC. The students were also able to exhibit their own work, as this was also their student choreography showcase. The evening consisted of diverse styles such as – African, contemporary, and world dance; unfortunately, I cannot say the all of the pieces impressed me.
There are three rudimental rhythmic procedures that have been known in drumming for the use of communication, entertainment and both communication and entertainment together.
There are many different versions of kagura, as the word is used to describe any music associated with Shintoism, but there are a few themes that run throughout each different type. The lyrics of the songs of kagura are derived from early Japanese poetry (2). This poetry splits kagura songs into two basic types: torimono, songs meant to praise the kami or seek their aid, and saibari, songs meant to entertain the kami (b1). Kagura music has been associated with dance since its beginnings in the story of the sun kami and the word “kagura” itself indicates its function to accompany some form of dance (4). Kagura dances are comprised of patterns which can be arranged in sequences forming cognitive units, making it possible to identify a repertory of kagura dance movements (3). These dance movements are often associated with drum patterns and the renditions of dance movements can determine the number of repetitions of a given drum pattern during a performance (3). Kagura generally contains a drum beat with strong connections to the dance, a number of wind instruments playing long floating melodies, a string instrument playing arpeggios marking the beginning or end of sections of the music, and a

When one thinks of different dance forms, one would tend to look at the beauty of it and how it makes people feel. But understanding the origin of some of the dances should help one to appreciate the importance the art form of dance has made in history. Through both of the dance forms there would be a discussion between the origins as well as the similarities and contrast of ballet and classical Chinese dance.
The topic I decided to choose to conduct my Capstone Research on is Copyright in Choreographic Works. Choreography is “Choreographers use dance performances to express ideas and stories. There are many types of dance, such as ballet, tango, modern dance, tap, and jazz (bls.gov). Choreography is also something that should be made from the heart, it’s not something that should be taken from someone else because at that point, it wouldn’t be considered your choreography and it wouldn’t be something you made from your own mind and creativity. Dancing is something you have a passion for and you show your emotions through your movements, so there shouldn’t be a need to copy. The problem now is, many choreographers are starting to steal choreography
Despite the fact that ballet is a completely new challenge for me, I managed to learn the choreographies and movements. From the videotaped performance I was able to identify the dance technique aspects that need to be improved for further correction. Although several elements, such as turns, port de bras, spatial awareness, movement quality and dynamic range require work; there are also aspects that were improved through practice.
Ballet, What is it? It definitely is not just a girl twirling around in a tutu. Although that is what most people see it as. It is form of expression and is considered an art because with performance there is a story being told.
One of the eloquent expressions of the art of dance pertains to ballet. In which individuals fuse to perform choreography depicting emotions and the stories of others. Renowned pieces of ballet include the performances Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Giselle and A Midsummer’s Night Dream (Schiesl). The individuals within the ballet community form a discourse community, as members engage in common practices to reach similar achievements.
