As Guy-Charyl issue show that there are tension between different project teams in Ralston Crane, the executive worried about the continuous tensions would weaken the effectiveness to the firm’s operation and the satisfaction of the client. To relieve the current situation, analysis of leadership and trust within the company will be used to examine the fact that such tension exists and to suggest appropriate action to tackle the issue.

Laissez-faire style is the type of leader who avoid taking a stand, ignore problems and dispute, do not follow up and refuse to intervene as necessary. Transactional leadership represent those managers who can deal with transaction, clarify role and task for followers and manage the followers on day-to-day basic. Transformational leadership is the approach that manager can produce a good vision, inspire and motivates followers or even empower followers. In this case, Ruth cannot be recognized as a type of Laissez-faire leader as she at least realizes the issue between Guy and Charyl is an problem and she hopes to resolve it, but, she can be merely viewed as a transactional leader as she give Guy and Charyl different project with different ambitions and goals. However, she do not clearly clarify the role and task for them, but to just leave the project to them. To certain extent, transactional leader cannot be seen as a bad leader, but it can do much better to become a transformational leader who can lead their followers be more effective and motivated to their …show more content…

However, trust between leader and their followers is another important issue to maintain or improve the effectiveness of a business. The trustworthiness of a leader have 3 important elements which are Integrity, Benevolence and ability. Integrity represent honesty, whereas benevolence is whether they care and support either others. Ability is whether one believe the others have the ability to finish the job. In the case, there was a lack of trust in the ability between Ruth, Guy and Charyl. Based on the current dispute, it can interpret Ruth does not trust the ability of Guy, therefore, she does not give the project to Guy. After he finds Charyl is not really competent to the task, it will further break the trustworthiness between Ruth and Guy. Conversely, if Ruth trusts the ability of both Guy and Charyl, she cannot assign the project to only one of them as this is the fact of the current
