The career that I chose for a possible advancement beyond a staff radiation therapist was radiation oncology supervisor. Overall the main day to day duties of a radiation oncology supervision is to make sure the department is running smoothly by making sure their staff are appropriately completing their duties. They do this by making sure the staff are sticking to the standards and ethics implemented by their profession and the hospital.1 As part of their job it is their duty to hire employees and makes sure those employees are trained to provide good care to cancer patients.1 They have many administrative day to day duties like planning budgets, developing policies, identifying problems within the department and developing solutions.1 The …show more content…

As a result, there are some pros and cons of being a radiation oncology supervisor. When I asked Anna Rosploch R.T.T. (Email communication, November 2016) about the pros and cons of her job she said, “The biggest con is that I’m pulled in so many directions sometimes that it can make me a terrible partner to work with treating, or simming. There is commonly someone who needs something or a response right away and I frequently get interrupted when im with patients. learning to manage that time and all my duties is probably the biggest challenge”. She also went on to say that even though constantly being asked question and having to make decisions she likes having a say in how the department is run, and she also likes being able to make changes if there are problems with the staff or patients. She also said she a pro over being a staff radiation therapist is having a more flexible schedule. Be on time, look professional, learn how to respond to complaints, never talk poorly about other caregivers or patients, be calm, learn how to turn a bad situation into a good one, refine these skills, and your therapy skills, and people will naturally look to you as a leader. Be open to others ideas and make them feel important. Being a supervisor does not mean you know everything and you are always right,it means you are the right person to facilitate finding the right answer, and that is likely in the people you have staffed.
