Psychological topics of various nature are embodied throughout the film such as: latent learning, associative & observational learning, development, and prejudice and stereotype. The study and research of prejudice has shown that prejudice and stereotypes can be triggered, without the perceiver’s intent, with something as simple as exposure to a relevant provocation indication in the environment. The movie explains the story of two brothers, Danny and Derek Vinyard, who are misguided into racial hatred and discrimination by many life factors as well as teachings by peers.

While feeling guilty for entertaining the thought of deserting his prior points of view, he acknowledged the need to take a look at the faults, and this is an initial realization to change.

Another phenomena to suggest would be the Cognitive Dissonance Theory. This theory is introduced when Sweeny, an instructor at his brother’s school, visits Derrick in the infirmary in the prison, and expresses concern that his younger brother, Danny, has begun to follow in his footsteps. Derrick’s initial reaction to this concern is denial, which is later brought to light upon his release and return to his home.

This movie was powerful to me from the moment it started playing. To begin with, the movie touched many themes that dive into the complex psychological and social forces at work that are involved in cross cultural interaction, and its effects on different people of ethnicities. The movie was created to show its viewers that racism is everywhere and effects everyone, whether you are black or white or Hispanic, but the most important message that is conveyed through this script, was that people of different ethnicities continue to be burdened by. I think that this movie is a good first look into how hate groups operate and recruit young people. The downside, unfortunately, depending on one's focus, is that this movie could also excite a form of sensationalism that may give certain people the wrong idea. I have wondered if movies like this should be made with such violence, and if showing such violence would work in contradiction of what the message it is trying portray. I think however, that this movie's greatest success is its ability to create an awareness of issues of racism. In the end, I believe the movie will incite many questions from its viewers, create an effect for learning and combating
