Racism is an issue that has affected this country since the beginning of time, whether it was the Native Americans, Blacks, Chinese, Japanese, or Muslims. There are many different reasons for all, but the people who are affected have suffered regardless. The one that’s been in mainstream media and have recently received the most hatred is Muslims. It started in 2001, with Al-Qaeda and spread with ISIS over the years. It has affected the Muslim community and my own family both emotional and physically.
The overwhelming racism against Muslims didn’t start overnight or due to the superiority complex like with the blacks. It started on September 11, 2001, the day Al-Qaeda hijacked 4 airplanes, crashed two of the planes into the World Trade Center

Many Muslims are being searched on the basis of being Muslim and no other logical or probable cause. One issue leads to another causing fear, hatred, and the desire for revenge and revenge can sometimes get out of hand. Furthermore, ISIS claims to be Muslim when in fact the Quran frowns upon such acts. Also Americans don’t want to see the fact that ISIS isn’t only targeting Christian nations, but also Muslims countries. The first ISIS attacks first started in 2013 in Iraq, killing 1041 and injuring 2,200+, later in 2104 they expanded to the west totaling 6 dead and 12 injured. Later in 2015/2016, the attacks got larger and more devastating. Even then ISIS didn’t only attack western countries but also Middle Eastern Muslims countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Syria, Turkey etc. Yet, these Middle Eastern countries got less attention and more blame. ISIS bombed Karrada, Baghdad, and suspected to have bombed one of the holiest sites in Islam, the Prophet 's Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia. As stated before, racism is not something that people thought of in the last ten years, it is an ongoing theme that has been flowing through the story of the United States. Starting from the enslavement of black Africans, and moving along to the days of when African Americans were separated from white Americans even though they lived in the same country and walked the same streets. Racism is seen all over the world. Hitler killed close to six million Jews during World War II due to the fact that he claimed that Germans were superior. He said that Jews polluted Europe and began “cleaning” it up. “Racism serves both to discriminate against ethnic minorities and to maintain advantages and benefits for White Americans.” This is what Mark Feinberg, PhD, stated about this issue and most people would agree.
Racism (n): the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other race (Wordnet search, 1), a controversial topic in today’s society, a subject that many people try to sweep under the rug, but yet a detrimental problem that has been present in America since the colonial era. Will this dilemma come to a halt? Can all Americans see each other as equals despite their skin color and nationality; and what role has it played in past generations versus today’s generations and how will it affect our future? Has this on going way of thinking gotten better or worse? These are questions raised when many think about the subject; especially members of American ethnic groups and backgrounds, because most have dealt with racial discrimination in their life time.

Have you ever been discriminated against simply because your skin is darker than the next person? Have you ever been told by someone that “your pretty for a dark skin girl or boy?” Have you ever been racist toward your own race? Since long before we or our parents were born, the black community has faced this problem with racism within the same race. In the black community, it is said that if a person have a lighter skin complexion, than they are superior to those with a darker skin complexion. Racism within the black community is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

The key factors that help unconscious racism thrive in our society are the changes to the policy that determine what is a racist act, the formations of stereotype through the concentration of ethnic groups population, and the negative effects of Affirmative action all played a part.
