"All American Boys"
All around the news today we hear about polices killing innocent African Americans because of their own personal prejudice against them. Thousands of African Americans have died because of this prejudice and most were innocent and unarmed. Some people might ask how racism still exists after the Civil Wars? Or how can we do something about this and make racism go away?
Racism will always exist when one group feel more superior than another group, but as for how to make racism go away, "All American Boys" will explain it better than I ever can.
There are many books out there about racism, but none of them are like "All American Boys". Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely the authors of the book, offer a more modern day approach to stopping racism in the 21st century. But the title intrigued me and thought it's time to break out of my comfort zone and read a realistic fiction book once in a while.
"All American Boys" tells the story of two main characters who switch narrating the book from their point of view every chapter.One of them is Rashad an African American boy who is the victim of police brutality and Quinn a white bystander that sees Rashad getting attacked by a police.
Both characters are very realistic, for example Rashad who is deeply passionate about art and is in the local ROTC program for people who want to join the military. This whole incident started when he was at Jerry's a local supermarket, buying a bag of chips, and tripped on an old lady. Paul the police officer who was in the store thought Rashad was trying to steal from the old lady comes and interrogates Rashad.
