In conclusion, racism and police brutality toward African-Americans is wrong. Has police brutality and racism changed, I do not believe it. This whole idea of police brutality and racism started when the south lost the civil war. Caucasian southerners believed that they were losing power and authority toward African-American. Then the Ku Klux Klan was born for white people to have the authority again, but the KKK did many harmful things to African-Americans with lynching them and burning them on the cross. Then later in the years there was a group formed by Ice Cube he was the founder of the gangster rap group called the N.W.A. this group gave African-Americans a message to fight for their rights. Which lead into the LA riots after the beating
America as a people gloat when it comes to our freedoms we think we have it better than every other country out there but the protectors of our freedom are becoming fear and hated because of the injustices committed by certain officers. Some say life of an officer is hard because they do not know if they will ever see their family again after they drive out of their house in the morning, others might say every officer knows what they were signing up for so they should not be pitied. Police officers face dangers everyday but profiling and racially motivated brutality is not justifiable and officers should be severely punished for committing these crimes.
A father purchased a toy gun as a birthday gift for his young son. His son went outside to play and and encountered a police officer who shot him seven times. This incident occurred in Sonoma County in October 2013. A similar incident occurred in November 2014 when Cleveland police killed a 12-year-old boy carrying a toy gun. Although it may seem African Americans are highly discriminated upon in the justice system, there is ample amounts of data to prove otherwise. The racial issues found in the system are due to inner city isolation and common crime patterns involving drugs even if it may seem as if the system is racist.
Have you ever been discriminated against simply because your skin is darker than the next person? Have you ever been told by someone that “your pretty for a dark skin girl or boy?” Have you ever been racist toward your own race? Since long before we or our parents were born, the black community has faced this problem with racism within the same race. In the black community, it is said that if a person have a lighter skin complexion, than they are superior to those with a darker skin complexion. Racism within the black community is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

Racism against African American began in the American society during the seventeenth century, when the practice of slavery started to flourish in the South. Racism is “a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.” (Dictionary.com) Over the centuries, efforts have been made to equalize the lives of African Americans to their White counterparts. Though acclaimed that the days of racism against African Americans are over, it is infused in all parts of American life and therefore still affecting the victimized. The stratification of racial classes of olden days has left a mark in today’s society. African American racism though said not to be present today has influenced discrepancies in economic classes, self-esteem, and perception of one another, and stereotypes that affected the victimized.
Over the years, this country has witnessed many cases of police brutality. It has become a controversial topic among communities that have seen police brutality take place in front of their homes. Officers are faced with many threatening situations everyday forcing them to make split second decisions and to expect the worst and hope for the best. Police officers are given the power to take any citizens rights away and even their lives. With that kind of power comes responsibility, that’s one major concern with the amount of discretion officers have is when to use force or when to use lethal force. The use of excessive force may or not be a large predicament but should be viewed by both the police and the community.

Based on from what I seen and experienced, racism is still here and now that we have improved technology we can catch people in the act. There are some cops that have been abusing people for along time but, nothing has been done about it. They have been breaking into peoples houses without knocking and raiding them. From 2009 to 2010 there have been 5,986 misconducts reported and 382 misconducts were connected to fatalities. Many times these police repeatedly beat a person after restraining which the leads to death and nothing happens about it.
The movement BlackLivesMatter have outed hundreds unlawful officers and victims that never got the justice needed. The same characteristics (color and style) that emulates strong, noble people can backfire. Black people in this country who actively resist dehumanization makes a call to action and a response to anti-Black racism in our current society. (Cullors, 2015) The growth of the movement has moved country-wide, first starting in the south; the south had always had history of racism and anti-black impulses. This movement is continuing to carry up north and west, and is projected that any officer can be the next one to unlawfully kill another black individual. These immoral police officers are no different from the rest of the police force, their uniforms are no different color or style they do not have different titles, there is no distinction between the these two types of officers. African Americans are persuaded to be more cautious and angry towards police officers; anyone with a cop uniform can be considered a threat to their life. Innocent cops were murdered in retaliation to the unfair judicial systems that are not punishing these cops. 313 African Americans were killed by police brutality in 2012 alone (Chavez). Police should not be killing citizens unless completely necessary. 313 people are too many people to kill a year, let alone have all 313 people be of the same race. An extreme example of racism in America is Ferguson where 93 percent of arrests were African American despite African Americans only making a third of the population (Apuzzo). This trend by police is not acceptable in American society. Were these police officers regular citizens that had justifiably killed that many people they would have seen jail time and other repercussions. This aggressive targeting of black men and women is yet another reason that the United States police force has to cease being
