Racial discrimination affects all aspects of our society; racial discrimination against Muslims is an issue has not received the attention it needs. Discrimination has slowly been on the rise since 9/11 and has only gotten worse the past few years. Although our government has spoken out on this and there are other sorts of discrimination that are equally as important Muslims are receiving more hate than any other minority group. The Muslim minority is not being protected by the government and the people like every other group or race in America. Muslims are stereotyped, they are abused and harassed, and their rights are not being upheld by society.

Once again, fear and developed hate play a major role in these types of responses towards Muslims. Here is a prime example, an NYPD officer quickly became a victim of harassment and physical abuse once she began to wear her hijab to work after converting into a Muslim. Her co-workers mocked her and harassed her every day that she came to her job, and after she filed a complaint the same co-workers physically hurt her. The officer had to be moved to a different location, and the assailants were released from their jobs. It is unjust that due to a stereotype or a harassment, a student is forced to delay their studies, or in some circumstances leave their studies completely. All students have the right to study where they chose without having to feel uneasy and unsafe about the place they are going to receive their education. The key is to treat these Minorities like everyone else because in the end their purpose in this country is the same, to have a better life. With the aid of some regulations and the effort of our society to look at the Muslim community with non-discriminatory thoughts, Muslims can be protected, better understood, and treated with respect.
