Throughout this paper I have discussed how I have helped others through puppeteering or how my puppeteering forefathers have used puppeteering for the neglected. Never has the topic of how puppeteering helped me has come up and in reality that is very important to who I am now. Puppeteering has given me discipline. When I was younger, I was often unable to complete what I wanted because I did not have the focus or dedication to finish jobs. Being a puppeteer has helped me be more focused and discipline. I now always finish what I start. Also, when I was younger I often felt like I had no voice. Being a puppeteer allowed me to project myself onto the puppet. They were me and they were able to speak for me. I had a mild lisp when I was younger
Dramaturgy is a view of social life as a series of dramatic performances akin to those taken place in a theatre (Ritzer, 144). Much of Goffman’s dramaturgy is concerned with the processes by which such disturbances are prevented and dealt with (Ritzer, page 144). In the Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman developed a new approach to the sociological study of human interaction, due to a mental health court scenario, of what he referred to as “dramaturgical” because of the analogy it had of the theatre to describe how an individual engages in social interaction with others in a performance (Staton et al, page 5). This performance was a way for actors to influence their audience in a given situation. In the addition of the mental health scenario, age, gender, and race relevant. Anthem by Ayn Rand explores a dystopian world where man is completely controlled. He complies to every order and demand without hesitation and is wholly satisfied with the way life is because it is all he knows. It is said to fully dominate a man, dictators must not only enslave his body but also destroy his mind. The manipulation in Anthem is far past fear alone; the leaders in Anthem also strip individuals of their identities, turn people into “robots” and leave the population naïve.
One of the primary inquiries that arises from Shakespeare’s famous work,Hamlet, is whether the protagonist is truly insane or whether he is just pretending to be so. Unlike some of Shakespeare’s other work such as Macbeth where the “discerning eye” can determine whether the character is actually insane or not and where the madness was born, Shakespeare leaves Hamlet’s madness up to interpretation. In the play, Hamlet’s madness can be viewed as rational or viewed as completely crazy. Hamlet’s madness is shown through his rash decisions, mood swings, and his “nutty as a fruitcake” speeches. The method behind his madness can be reasoned through the fact that in his madness he is protected by the king, he makes fools of king and everyone around him, and he gets plenty of time to plot his revenge against Claudius for the murder of his father.
For this paper, I will be focusing on Erving Goffman’s concept of dramaturgy. Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied social interaction, and is well known for his work on ‘the self.’ His book, Presentation of Self, continues to be an important and relevant book in sociology since it explains by social interaction within humans is important. In his theory, Goffman explains that people are like actors performing on a stage because of how they live their lives. Drama is used as a metaphor for how an individual presents their self to society. In his work, Goffman explains that ‘the self’ is the result of the dramatic interaction between the actor and the audience he or she performs to. There are many aspects of how an individual performs his or her ‘self’.

In society today, we are conditioned to believe certain sets of ideals. We use these ideals to interact and get along with the other people we surround ourselves with. These ideals are often the societal norms that form common ground amongst individuals. However, living life based off these basic and unchanging beliefs is not beneficial to humanity, nor does it make life any easier to live. In fact, holding on to the most accepted beliefs holds back society as a whole. Judith Halberstam, in her essay “Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation” challenges these societal norms through the analysis of animated movies and, in doing so, carves a path for a new way of thinking.
Musical theatre originated from something called an Operetta. An Operetta is a genre of light opera, light in terms both of music and subject matter. It is also closely related, in English-language works, to forms of musical theatre.
Hooking is replacing dating with casual sexual encounters, the purpose of the study is to find out if hooking up is becoming this new norm, and what the consequences of this will be on both men and women. The practice of hooking up is not new it first started happening more often after the baby boomers and the sexual revolution. Where birth control was easier to access.
People screaming and avoiding that person like they’re the plague is all I can see in my mind if I try to imagine it. I wouldn’t feel like that and I wouldn’t be scared because I have a personal connection with someone deformed. If someone deformed, like August came to our school, most people would avoid that person, but I wouldn’t because my cousin is deformed and I’m comfortable with it.
Madness is a state-of-mind were a person loses their sanity, they are mentally ill. In the play Hamlet, Hamlet meets his deceased father in a ghost form only to inform him of who caused his death and wants revenge. Now Hamlet must avenge his father's death, and the only way he can do it in a less obvious approach is by acting mad. But as the play continues, it becomes a lot harder to tell if Hamlet is still sane due to his actions. In the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare makes Hamlet's madness appear real but only to prove that he was only acting as if he were mad.
Individuals can experience release, whether from worldly cares or from physical tension, through the marvelous art form of ballet. Hence ballet, in its many aspects, has much to offer individuals and can be seen reflecting to many Western ideals through this art. Most people often find ballet just appealing to the eye and are just seen watching it be performed. Have you ever wondered what influenced ballet and where it came from? Ballet is reflective of Western ideals in many ways whether it is culturally, politically and aesthetically. Not only is ballet used to appeal to the eye and experience release from worldly cares, but also to demonstrate some sort of history and reflect Western ideology.
Ballet, What is it? It definitely is not just a girl twirling around in a tutu. Although that is what most people see it as. It is form of expression and is considered an art because with performance there is a story being told.
There are different ways how to transmit a message and awake emotions in the audience. Dance, it’s the powerful tool that can evoke excitement, sadness, happiness, comedy and love, all at once. At the Young Choreographer showcase, there were spectacular presentations, but the ones that captured my full attention and admiration were the following performances: Irregardless, Danza Del Fuego and Echos. They had a mixture of rhythms and a wide variety of movements. The emotional significance and technique of the dances will be analyzed in order to understand the massive importance of the origin, motivation and message the dance offered.
Since the first sign of the human civilization until now, human had invented many great inventions to support their daily lives. Having only been exposed to the performance side of things in high school, learning about the amount of work that goes into production offered me a refreshing look into theatre and all it entails. The hands on experiences of LX2 and SX were eye openers for me in terms of looking at what happens backstage while actors are rehearsing, which is the part of theatre I am most familiar with.
