My professional journey began in Nigeria, where I managed both young and old patients with infectious diseases and chronic conditions. From those early days in my career, I began to focus on internal medicine and my pediatric population. Providing care to children was especially rewarding because I could be more proactive by applying preventive medicine principles from projects I led during medical school. Nevertheless, some patients suffered from diseases that could either have been prevented or less complicated if they were diagnosed and addressed early. In the course of my practice, I realized the need for healthcare professionals with analytical and advocacy skills, who would not only treat patients but develop and implement public health programs. I wanted to go beyond ‘damage control’ in the hospital because our best efforts were not sufficient to help some patients given the stage of their disease and various other confounding factors.

My goal is to be equipped with the knowledge, skill, and hands-on experiences needed to engage meaningfully in the field of public health. This will ensure I become a highly trained independent and successful researcher in this field. With these skills, I intend to research into the health and social behavior, recognize pertinent public health problems pertinent to the population, help make health policies and crafting recommendations for health systems that would bring sustainable solutions besieging underserved areas. I come from an underserved area in Nigeria and have worked in several underserved areas both in Nigeria and Jamaica, especially during my internship. MPH program would help me fulfill that long-term goal of working in an underserved region. I assure you that I will apply myself to utmost degree possible to excel in your
While the moral backing for public health in its current state may be sound, what many researchers fail to understand is that the many moral failings of its predecessors that color the legacy of public health internationally and at home. As discussed in the chapter “Colonial Medicine and its Legacies” within the textbook Reimagining Global Health arranged by Paul Farmer, before the conception of global health there was international health which sought to distribute health as a good horizontally across international, political lines. Under the framework of international health, public health workers became agents of a cold war enmeshed in the fiscal, geopolitical, and territorial struggles between two hegemons rather than the holistic value of community health. While international health as a framework has largely been abandoned, much of its rhetoric can be found within our current framework of public health such as the enumeration of certain parts of the world as "1st world", "2nd world",

What does ‘care’ mean? Care is the provision of what is necessary for your health, welfare and protection of someone or something. However when you talk about ‘care’ in a care practice the term changes and becomes more about enabling people to meet all their needs which would refer to their social, physical, emotional, cognitive and cultural needs. The individual is central to the meaning of care in this context.
At an early stage in my medical school in Iraq, I realized the great positive impact of public health on the community in health education orientation, disease prevention and health well-being as a general and what affirmed it later, my clinical practice as a physician in Iraq first then Dubai later. Public health was a major integral block in my clinical practice to educate the people towards a healthier lifestyle and implementing the preventative screening measures necessary to get a healthy, well protected community. After moving to the United States, I took the initiative to familiarize myself with the US healthcare system by doing many clinical rotations in different family practices and pediatric clinics in Houston, TX. After these rotations, I was enamored with the delivery of public health measures in each clinic, according to the US public health standards. My fondness for public health drove me to get an opportunity to be a health educator
We have all heard the saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. This saying appears to be nothing more than a silly children’s rhyme. However, if we think about it, we still remember it and this silly little rhyme encouraged us to eat fruit. As we reflect back on our childhood many of us can recall our parents encouraging us to eat our vegetables and to go outside and play. Why did they do this? Because it was and is an essential part of our healthy growth. In present day, where technology and fast food are far more prevalent, children are receiving far less encouragement to be healthy. In order to live a healthy lifestyle children and adolescents need to spend, “60 minutes or more being physically active ("Physical Activity Guidelines
Education is neither linear nor static. It requires evolution and fluctuations. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at UNC Charlotte, and now it is time for a prime conversion to be made. Attending the Masters of Public Health program at UNC Charlotte would open the door for me to pursue my career aspirations in health care. Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health. My ambition, perseverance, and work ethic have brought me to a high point, and enrolling in the Masters in Public Health program would raise that threshold even higher.

Public Health is the most important aspect of medicine. My studies in Public Health will go a very long way to help me grasp the proper concepts and tools needed to work with the government to bring sustainable solutions to health care problems faced by various communities today. Public Health issues touch almost every family in the USA today. I know that if the health sector was better funded, better equipped, and better managed, with clear and effective policies, this kind of suffering could been avoided. I want to go into public health because I believe strongly that I can contribute not only to my fellow Americans, but also to people all over the world. I anticipate that through proper planning, interventions and implementation of effective policies, one will be able to bring about much-needed change through my work with an NGO or non-profit affiliated with the UN.

My passionate about preventive medicine continues throughout my medical school, I volunteered at the ministry of health polio eradication campaigns, where we went door to door across the rural areas of my city sought to vaccinate every child aged five or under.
