The Last Emperor is about the last emperor Pu Yi of China. At the very beginning the three year old little boy Pu Yi is brought to the forbidden city to confront the Empress Dowager. During their meeting the Empress entrust China to the hands of Pu Yi. The Story is told in a flashback and flashforward way where we learn about the emperor’s past and his present life. During his reign as a monarch Pu Yi meets his younger brother for the first time, and his mother who he hasn’t seen in years. Within his first years as Emperor he is forced to abdicate his throne to the republic of China. To be honest I really did not get into the story all that much because it wasn’t all that interesting and the way the movie was put together seemed like it wasn’t planned, and it was lacking depth except for a few scenes like the cricket scenes. Yes the story is worth telling so that people know of the last emperor of China. I didn’t notice if it had any good lesson, morals, or themes other than don’t be power hungry and don’t be selfish. One reason the movie was able to hook me almost from the beginning was the cricket scene. The cricket scene to me has a lot of depth and emotion and it was very interesting how they portrayed it into the life of Pu yi. While watching the film towards the end and watching Pu yi going back to the forbidden city I was thinking if they didn’t have another cricket scene I was going to turn off the tv and give up on life because that was what I was looking for to truly love this movie. This type of film is generally not what I watch, yet I enjoyed it too a certain level. While watching this film I wasn’t able to pick up any message or theme. Even though there wasn’t a theme or message I learned that people can change even if they come from power. I would not recommend this to most people because many people would not be interested in watching a film like the Last
