Part 1: What role does social media play, if any, in the development, maintenance, and treatment of psychological disorders? Social media plays a big role in the development and maintenance of psychological disorders. It is my opinion that social media tends to play quite a negative role on psychological disorders. It is most often seen on the news or on social media that an individual with a psychological disorder went on a rampage, or committed some serious crime. However, no one explains the fact that not all people with psychological disorders are dangerous criminals. Yes, a psychological disorder could cause someone to deviate from the law and commit acts of terror and violence, however, the most common psychological disorders, like depression, make it hard for a person to even find life worth living at times. Prior to what we learned, I already believed that people who suffered from psychological disorders did not seem to revere the aid and support that they needed/deserved. I felt like due to the media and the way that society portrays psychological disorders people had a wrong view of what it meant to live with psychological disorders. I found the number of people who die each year from suicide, caused by not getting the aid they need with their disorders, to be very upsetting. I do not think that it if necessarily fair for people who need help to feel so helpless that they feel the need to end their life. I think that the government and society should do more to help out these individuals. Instead of focusing on money, and political conflict, I think they should try and focus on improving the way in which these individuals can get help. That could include providing better resources for individuals with psychological disorders, or even just creating seminars that they can attend if they need help and
