Whether to arm the police is a contentious subject. While some supporters maintain that unarmed police are unable to protect law-abiding citizens, opponents reject this notion on the grounds that it could lead to a surge of violence in society.
At the outset, the primary concern on armed police is that it would increase the potential for miscarriages of justice and mistaken shooting of innocent civilians. Consequently, the legislation in many countries is supportive of this concern. From a legal standpoint, laws protect people not only from torture and cruel treatment, but also their legal right on arrest and detainment. If the police are armed, they will be less likely to think twice before pulling the trigger. Moreover, they can easily get
What do you think when you see a police car? Do you feel safer knowing there 's a police officer if anything happens or do you get nervous and think you might get pulled over. The majority of people get nervous when they see a police car. With all the cases in which police use excessive force to arrest or kill a suspect people are more worried and the armored vehicles don 't help. The whole world watched in the early days of the Ferguson protests the huge police response. Armored vehicles, gas masks, assault rifles all worn with a military like uniform, this is the police that exists today. Do small police departments like Fergusons really need mine resistant armored vehicles or drones? I don 't think they do and that 's why I think that the
Some people think that states that allow citizens to carry guns only raises the crime rate in that state. Studies have actually shown that states that allow citizens to carry guns actually have a lower crime rate. States that allow citizens to carry guns have actually shown to lower murder rates from 5.6 killings per 100,000 people to 4.2.
First of all article 7 is not respected: “ No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” It is clear that using physical violence and abusing the use of weapons is in fact, a vicious and ruthless way to treat innocent humans. No matter how much authority policemen have, it should not allow them to abuse of it. As an example, I will use the case of Orlando Bowen, a professional football player that played for the Canadian league. On March 26, 2004, Bowen was at a night club celebrating a contract he had just signed with the Toronto Argonauts. Two disguised police officers approached him to ask if he was carrying any drugs with him. The football player informed them that he did not have any drugs on him and after the policemen kept insisting, he decided to leave. He was threatened by the officers as they suggested that he stays with them or else they will shoot him and Bowen immediately obeyed. With no proof, Bowen was arrested for possession of cocaine after he was brutally beaten by the officers for no valuable reason. It is important to note that Bowen was not aware of what he was being charged for until he was put in jail and he assured that the drugs that were found on him did not belong to him. Bowen was charged with possession
The right to keep and bear arms for the purpose of the profession, such as police officers, should be further restricted so that the use of force of injuring or killing another person is reasonable and justified. Police departments should review how officers use force. Police officers everywhere have been criticized for being too aggressive in their use of force more than once.
As a result, “Nearly all agree that when an officer is facing a deadly threat, the proper response is to use deadly force”(Lind). Yes there are many people out there that can be a deadly threat to police officers because the way they are acting but, there are many innocent people that do not affect anyone and still have to be a part of the problem for no given reason. Although a police officer’s proper response is to use deadly force upon someone, there should be other alternatives or ways they can use before going into deadly force and possibly cause someone to lose their live. I certainly do understand that there are certain situations where a cop is coming across someone that is pointing a gun or knife at them and approaching towards them. So therefore them using deadly force would possibly be the right thing to do if they have too, but before using deadly force they should at least try deploying tasers or using bean bag guns to attempt in taking them
There's a problem in America. Children, defenseless are being shot one by one. They go to their school and the schools are a gun free zone. The shooters take advantage of it and take the children's lives. Teachers should be able to carry a handgun to protect their children. This is very important, to all teachers and students for their safety. Shooters wouldn't come in the school knowing that the teacher had a gun. Students would feel way safer. There would be a lot of safety that would go into this.there are a lot of facts that can help us make the decision.
Gun control, in and of itself, is not evil or even a bad idea. The biggest issue is that, for the most part, it is not particularly successful.
Police shootings occur all over the world but are a huge problem within the United States. We continue to hear more and more about them. These shootings are making headlines. Front page news it seems almost weekly. All the shootings go one of two ways. Either a Police Officer has been shot or a Police Officer has shot a citizen, but either way the final result is death. Whether an Officer has been shot or an Officer has shot someone these cases seem to be related to one thing, fear. People in today’s society feel as though they can’t trust Police Officers as they are there to hurt and kill them. And Police Officers feel as though they are in danger of doing their everyday duties because people see them as the “bad guys” and want to hurt or kill them. Yes, police brutality and racism still exist, but not all cops are bad. Yes there are still bad citizens in this world that want to kill and harm others, but not all citizens are bad. People seem to react to these shootings by rioting quickly after a police officer has shot and killed someone without
It is sad to say that the killing of Walter Scott by Officer Slager is all too familiar. Every time we turn around there is a black man, black woman, black little girl, or a black little boy that is being gunned down by those who are supposed to protect us. I read somewhere online that in the past five years there have been two hundred police shootings in the state of South Carolina, seventy of them resulted in deaths, and none of the officers were found guilty. We must stop the violence of our people, especially by those who are supposed to protect and save us. We have to stop sitting and waiting on decisions, and go demand them ourselves. It is necessary that we keep our young black men and women out of the streets and prison systems and
Police already have a tough enough job as it is. Making a decision in a split second could result in a life or death decision depending on the situation and an officer needs to be able to adapt quickly. But deadly force such as shooting to kill has become more common than before. Take for instance five years ago, a man who was unarmed and thirty five years old, was shot by a police officer who mistakenly took his garden hose as a gun. Deadly force was the wrong decision in this case. However the officer was adapting to his situation and acted quickly to a false alarm.
The debate over gun control in America has constantly brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of civilizations in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anybody that has been affected by the shootings have been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on government. With the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support. Adding more gun control isn’t going to stop the mass shootings from happening.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
Guns, people say that guns are necessary. For example they say if for protection, for fun, or because they think having a gun is cool. But are they really necessary? Because according to the news and social media, people use guns for destruction, some good examples are shootings at schools, at public places and wars. And the worst of all is that students and common people that suffer from mental problems are the ones causing all those shootings, and they all get the guns from home or a store. It seems that now days it is easier to buy guns and ammo than buying alcohol, and that’s a fact 18 year olds can buy guns, but not alcohol. In my opinion guns are more harmful than alcohol. That’s why society has to put an end to this, if there’s no end to this chaos and murder will be destroying what the common
Police Weaponry The police can use a variety of weapons to take down a suspect. The fact that they have so many non-lethal weapons, makes me wonder why they don’t use them. According to, Okayplayer.com, Barack Obama banned the use of military grade weapons from the police force in the United States.
In the beginning the police were used in order to control free slaves and enforce Jim Crow laws. After that era was over, the police then moved on to control “dangerous classes” which were immigrants, the poor and African Americans .
