“An unfortunate but undeniable fact is that the number one reason why dogs end up being euthanized is through a lack of socialization.” (#1) Thus, preventing behavior problems through socialization is more appealing than having to try to correct the dogs for an unwanted behavior in the first place. Behaviors such as barking, object or people guarding, chewing, separation anxiety, aggression and leash reactivity.
Proper dog socialization helps the dog and owner create a sense of closeness and well-being. It also offers a topic of conversation within many social groups and settings. The interactions help promote a positive experience with other animals and people. Most vets and dog trainers recommend to start socializing the dog before it is twelve to sixteen weeks old. In turn this helps the dog have the ability to be well adjusted in different situations as it ages plus it also helps avoid any behavioral issues.
The risks that are involved with engaging in dog socialization are situations like running into other dogs that have behavior problems or are unsocolized. Other behavior problems such as leash reactivity, fear based aggression, biting, vocalizations and blocking. It is recommended that owners and their new puppies should try to avoid any situations during the first couple of days when you first bring him home that could possibly leave him with a lasting fear. This would include any major scares such as an aggressive dog that approaches to fast or a general loud noise. Another tip that you can try while socializing is to work on basic obedience
