Dogs are magnificent creatures, and when raised correctly, are adorable, loyal, loving animals. However it takes a lot of time, energy, and commitment to make sure that dogs are raised correctly. These animals have a lot of the same requirements that a human child needs. They also act as a child would. A new dog owner would do well to consider these points before they take on the responsibility of raising one of these incredible creatures. There are some people who think that a puppy automatically knows everything to do. For example they think that puppies know they shouldn't chew on shoes and furniture. But just as a child or toddler becomes bored and explores his surroundings, so puppies do the same. Young dogs have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy to run and play, and if not thoroughly exercised by playing appropriate games such as Fetch, they will become destructive inside the house. Another misconception related to being exercised is behavior. If a puppy is kept in a crate for eight hours a day and then let out only to go to the bathroom, then the puppy will have listening issues because the puppy has been confined and needs to run around and the owner refuses to oblige it. Also as young puppies, it is important to socialize them frequently with both multiple different animals and people. If not, the animal could act lovable to a family, but when a stranger comes into the yard, the animal could turn into a ferocious beast that could cause traumatic accidents to anyone. Dogs can be socialized simply by having friends come over to the house for a few minutes a day just to say hello. When they are physically depleted to the point that they no longer can reproduce, breeding females are often killed” (ASPCA 4). According to, Caesar Milian and Melissa Peltier, animal experts, “lifespan of the breeding dogs is often cut in half.” To add on, the animals are in pens and cages that are not large enough for them. ( What is a Puppy Mill? 6). In the mills the puppies are overcrowded in small spaces. Puppies need the room to exercise and have to room to be comfortable. Moreover, “ In some cases, their matting and confinement are so extreme that their fur actually grows into the cage, pinning the dog in one spot.” Dogs can’t live just sitting in one spot. They do not have room to lie down, exercise, eat, etc. If the dogs even try to move, they can pull their fur out or cause pain. As well, the puppies are removed from their mothers when they are only about 7 weeks old. Then, ten or more puppies are crammed in a small cage to be transported causing the puppies to be scared and have many illnesses or conditions caused by neglect and stress (Puppy Mills, Pet Shops, and the AKC Basic Facts 6). When the puppies are 7 weeks old, they should be with their mother and their littermates. The puppies are still learning at 7 weeks old and they miss out. When they go home with their owners they could end up being nippy or not socializing
Everyone loves puppies. Adjectives like cute, cuddly, adorable, and innocent are used to describe them. Sadly, the way they come into this world can be described as nothing short of ugly, premeditated and negligent. There are those who treat “man’s best friend” as though they were man’s worst enemy. Those people are in the business of manufacturing puppies by the millions, for millions. These particular manufacturing facilities they own and run are called “puppy mills”, where dogs and puppies are forced to live in the most inhumane, despicable conditions, far greater than prisoners of war or the worst criminals in our nation’s prisons have endured, causing inevitable high mortality rates. Of the six million puppies bred in puppy mills in the US annually, four to five million of them don’t survive. Everyday, eleven thousand cute, cuddly, adorable, and innocent puppies die due to these ugly, premeditated and negligent breeding procedures. Puppy mills should be shut down and made illegal until such time that strict laws are put into place to control and enforce humane breeding and living conditions, protecting the welfare of these dogs, and drastically lessening their mortality rate and the way puppy mill owners make their living.
Training your dog is the most important part of canine companionship. A happy dog is one who has structure and boundaries. Dogs are pack animals, and as such, they need guidance in the behavior that you expect from them. If you don't follow through in this leadership role, then the dog will naturally feel as if it is his place to do so. A dog that understands that you are the leader will naturally be easier to train.
Dogs are common throughout the world, either as a domestic pet, a protector on a farm, or an assistant for hunting amongst others. Regardless of the reason for having a dog, most people have either owned one for themselves or have known somebody who has owned one at some point in their life. Despite the relative normality of having a dog in your life in one way or another, the reasons for dogs coming into existence are not common knowledge among most people. Throughout a great portion of mankind’s history, dogs have been an essential part of life. The truth is, dogs were actually created in part by man.
Dogs should be trained to be around people and other pets at an early age. Training a dog to listen and obey is the most important factor (Marketwire). A dog can simply be bored and want to play aggressively. No matter the breed a dog can always be trained not to be violent (“CAUSES OF DOG”). An improperly trained dog can turn out to be mean and aggressive. Also allowing your dog to practice these behaviors will cause them to adapt to them. Exposing a dog to new things will help it become comfortable with them and recognize them. Dogs use their bark as an alarming system (Marketwire). Knowing when and why a dog is aggressive is a key factor for changing this

Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based on love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns them, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. Dogs need someone who can feed them, give them love, and someone who can help them exercise. Moreover, these animals need big spaces in order to run and develop their muscles, so the owner has to know that he needs to take a walk with the dog several times a day.
As one gets older being responsible comes in handy when applying to jobs, when attending school, and when having kids. Owing a dog teaches you to be responsible. For kids its one of their first jobs they get. They are told to pick up poop, take the dog out for walks, feed the dog and play with the dog. They are taking care of another life and if they do not do those tasks then the dog does not live a happy life. It gives kids a longtime commitment and it teaches them how to be consistent. They no longer just think of themselves they start thinking of the dog’s needs and what’s best for their dog. For adults who are thinking of having kids in the future whether it’s being married or single a dog is a good wake up call as to how hard it is taking care of another life yet so rewarding. They say that a dog is a man’s best friend, but they don’t tell you about the overall cost, responsibility, or convenience of adopting one. Dogs are supposed to bring so much joy to a household, but sometimes they can only fill a void for a short amount of time. When a dog owner buys a dog, do they actually research the things that they are about to get into? When I bought my dog, Skye, I never really looked into issues; I just looked at the benefits. I love Skye to death, and I guess I could say that she also loves me to death.

Dogs are wonderful creatures. They are loyal, dependable companions if given the opportunity. In recent years I have come to the opinion that we could learn something from these animals.
