The Power of Education. Modern societies no longer thrive on the size of its population like it would have years ago. Societies now depend heavily on knowledge possessed by their population for growth and development. Education provides citizens with the ability to think critically and make rational decisions, which help improve the conditions in society. The governments of many countries have noticed this trend and have taken steps in order to ensure a better and thorough education is provided to the people. These countries experience phenomenal growth in their economies, which they sustain for long periods of time. For instance Japan a small island nation in East Asia, which according to UNESCO, has an adult literacy rate of 99% continues to sustain a GDP of $4,210 billion placing it as the third strongest economy in the world as of 2015 (Projected …show more content…

The introduction of devices such as electronic blackboards, laptops etc. into the learning environment, brought a phenomenal increase in understanding by Japanese students in class(). Teachers provide a deeper understanding of a topic discussed in class by presenting relevant pictures and videos. ICT also promotes student, teacher interaction outside the classroom since teachers are just one email away. In Nigeria, teachers in both public and private schools have met the topic of using ICT in class with fierce disapproval. ICT devices are believed to actually hinder learning in class by reducing classroom participation from students (). The use of ICT devices such as laptops was discouraged in many schools across the country.
