Potions are a complex but interesting subject, similar to the Muggle chemistry. Both are challenging, and both are rewarding in their own right. I happen to be interested in both, which is why I started this class. I hope to learn a lot this year, and in the years to come. My background in potions mainly comes from reading textbooks, such as Magical Drafts and Potions, and by reading the works of many potions masters and mistresses. I have always had a passion for potions, and it was one of the few subjects I was excited about when I came to Hogwarts. I have no practical knowledge or experience with potions, but I am well-versed in Muggle chemistry. I believe that potions work through a mixture of magic and reactions. The magical
The different potions makers would make the potions in different ways depending on who or what it was making the potion. Ancient greeks would use potions an abundance of causes. There were medical reasoning and counterproductive reasons that potions were made. If it were not for the ancient greeks that are the baseline of all of today’s pharmaceutical practices, there would not be as many advancements that we have today in medicine. Greek potions are one of the most influential items that we have advanced from. The potions had ways that people would never think of today. People in greece had used potions for reasoning that has helped us build the advancements in medication that we now have in the modern
Chemistry is not used only in a lab environment, but it is used for every aspect of life. One way to look into a more in-depth view of chemistry is to apply it to a hobby, or something that may personally affect your everyday life. One of the biggest parts of my life and my main hobby is flying. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to become a pilot. I am currently working towards my private pilot’s license and I am also attending the U.S. Air Force Academy starting in June to study aeronautical engineering. Since flying is such a large aspect of my life and is important to me, I wanted to break it down into an aspect of chemistry. I chose this topic because flying is very important to me and it will continue to be a large part of my life as it will end up being my career in the Air Force. Not only will researching the topic of aviation fuel help me to become a more knowledgeable pilot, but it will also help me to understand more about chemistry and expand on the concepts we have learned this semester. Chemistry is extremely important to planes and pilots. One of the most obvious aspects of flying that deals directly with chemistry is fuel. Without fuel, aircraft would not be able to run. The molecular formula of fuel and the combustion of fuel are just some parts that play into how fuel makes an aircraft run.
When I first signed up for this class, I thought that it would be easy since it was a summer course. This was somewhat the case. The class overall was not hard but there was a lot of assignments to keep up with. When I first started my summer courses I had trouble managing my time and completing my assignments in a reasonable time. As the semester came to an end, I believe that I have grown in terms of time management. I still procrastinate sometimes on little things but not as much as I did in the beginning. I am happy that I learned so many great writing tips so early on in my college career so that it can help me further down the road.
The day before an Organic Chemistry II exam, I felt worried and unprepared as I wrapped up my office hours as an undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA) for CompSci 101. As I sat in the room waiting for my replacement to relieve me, I felt myself being pulled in all directions. At the end of the previous semester, I had ambitiously enrolled myself in two upper-level computer science courses, an infamously difficult statistics course, and second semester organic chemistry. Back then, I had not anticipated that I would have the opportunity to write my own book the following school year or that my manuscripts would be expected in the following
This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
Our knowledge of chemistry, and the many ways that it surrounds us has helped us better understand the world we live in and the ways in which we can use chemistry to better our world, and improve our exploration of it.
Over the years, I have developed an innovative approach to teaching and conducting research with undergraduates through creating and presenting course materials in both laboratory and classroom settings. In my experience, the best teaching involves concrete, hands-on examples, so I engage students in my courses by encouraging the maximum laboratory participation possible.
There are many ways to examine the subject of alchemy, including alchemy as a source of symbolism, psychology, and mysticism. It has also been an influence on the world view of various writers, artist, and musicians. The focus of this report is alchemy as a pre-chemistry, which gave a new impulse towards the preparation of medicinal remedies and also was a major influence on today's scientific investigations.Alchemy is an ancient art, practiced in the Middle Ages. The fundamental concept of alchemy stemmed from Aristotle's doctrine that all things tend to reach perfection.
In the book, “What’s cooking in Chemistry,” the author states with a powerful standpoint that many ways of chemistry is involved in the kitchen to help chefs and other people succeed in whatever they feel best to require on their path of success. After all everything in this entire world is made of atoms. This includes everything including food, humans, plants, the atmosphere and the ultraviolet rays that constantly attempt to penetrate the protection of the clouds in the air. Published in 2009, the authors; Hubertus P. Bell, Tim Feuerstein, Carlos E. Guntner, Soren Holsken, and J. Klaas Lohmann manage to organize the book in a format where they insert the person who described the explanation of the use of chemistry and listed the recipe for people to use in order to build a strong mental fortitude of an explanatory of an image that helps one unlock potential in science and technology throughout chemistry.
the study of how food and drinks affect our bodies with special regards to the essential nutrients
I thought that this class would be interesting and exciting, but unfortunately, it was one of those classes that I just couldn't seem to care about or just want to put effort in. It definitely exceeded my expectations, but not the way I wanted it too. For that, it was pretty much a nightmare taking this
Chemistry is a branch of science that has been around for a long time. It has been here ever since the prehistoric era. Chemistry takes up too much time to put on a time, so it was put into four categories. The four categories are: prehistoric times - beginning of the Christian era (black magic), beginning of the Christian era - end of 17th century (alchemy), end of 17th century - mid 19th century (traditional chemistry) and mid 19th century - present (modern chemistry).
As a child, I always questioned my parents about the medications they took. I was curious and, at the same time amazed by the effects tiny amounts of chemicals could have in the human body. This curiosity, among other factors, inspired me to study Pharmacy in order to use my knowledge to help improve the lives of others. I am deeply interested in the synthesis of pharmaceutical drugs and the ways they work in the human body.
Overall, I have learned a lot from this class. I must say there are topics that I am still confused about but only because I am just know understanding life from a different perspective. I am more open to now ask questions about things that I am not used to or even brought up around. For example, sexual libertarianism has views that sex is one of woman greatest power while I was thought that the vagina is one of women greatest power. I guess they both work together in sense of showing that women have a lot of
In just her second year at Hogwarts, she brews a Polyjuice Potion, a concoction used to change the appearance of a witch or wizard. J.K. Rowling says “the fact that Hermione is able to make a competent Polyjuice Potion at the age of twelve is testimony to her outstanding magical ability, because it is a potion that many adult witches and wizards fear to attempt” (“Polyjuice Potion”). Granger, undoubtedly, cares deeply about academics. In “The Sorcerer’s Stone,” when the trio (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger) is roaming the halls in search of Draco Malfoy to carry out a wizard’s duel, they come across a beastly three-headed dog. Although they manage to escape unscathed, Hermione tells the others, “I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed—or worse, expelled” (Rowling, “Sorcerer’s Stone,” 162) In “Prisoner of Azkaban,” Professor Remus Lupin uses in one of his
