When it comes to teaching, there are many ways one could go about educating their students. The most valuable lesson in teaching is that the information is coming off as beneficial, meaning it is effective to the student. Students are participants, therefore they play a huge role in the learning process, so in order to get them to learn one must comprehend their viewpoints and involve them in the process. A big topic teacher’s use today is pop culture. The general definition of pop culture would be anything from activities to perspectives that are prevalent to a general population. This article discusses that these fashion trends can be a way to teach the use of rewards for motivation, focus and refocus cues, and positive self-talk. Teachers often see motivation through reward as a strategy. When it comes to coaching educators and sport phycology practitioners, both can teach the effectiveness of this process. Collins discusses how a good effort in practice can be rewarded with being able to wear a team’s favorite jersey the next day. Last season, our coach would let us pick our jersey if we practiced well all week. It was exciting and motivated us as silly as that sounds. Athletes might also wear something inspirational to them and when one is in a stressful situation they will look for it. I know I wear a necklace as a kind of good luck charm to me, and when things get tough I grab it and take a deep breath. Another one of my teammates has a saying written on her glove to remind her to breathe and stay relaxed. I believe these little athletics fashion trends are huge when it comes to teaching.
