Political socialization starts at a very young age for most people. When growing up you learn and learn a little about pretty much everything. Growing up and living in the United States of America you learn, very vaguely, at a young age about our government, political parties, the presidents, and so on. At a young age these things may not make full sense and are just something you know little or a lot about. Weather you get this information from a Mother, a Father, grandparents, cousins, friends, teachers, and so forth you learn to know that they know very much about these topics and try to inform you as much as possible about these topics. But with these topics everyone, no matter who they are, have their own opinion about each topic. One of the main deciding factors of political parties is your parents. Weather you have a Mom, a Dad, or both, they are your family and you look up to them and want to feel a part of that. You can turn on any news station and see something and automatically think it’s true without even questioning the facts or where it came from. The media plays a huge role in politics and in our role with politics in society. The media is one of the main sources where people get their information about politics today and will always be a huge source. There are news stations that lean more left and there are some that lean more right. Every news station is about the same when it comes to news and reporting but they all report and present the news in different ways. All reporters and journalists have their own opinion on political parties and the news they capture can depend on their political belief. News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
A lot of things have played a role in my personal political socialization. Political ideology is the places where you have informed your beliefs from. The first example of where I get my personal political socialization is from my family. Second I have influence from my location in the U.S.A. Finally I get influence from Narragansett High School which is the school I currently attend. That is where I received my personal political socialization from.

Many people believe that liberal media bias is very relevant in this day in age, but really it is just a myth. Conservatives, also known as republicans, tend to forget that most of the American media is influenced heavily by corporate business owners(Schaller 49). Topics such as issues of war and peace, taxes and spending, and government regulation are heavily favorable to the conservatives. A study done by Media Matter for America shows that over sixty percent of U.S. daily newspapers publish conservative journalists rather than liberal(Schaller 49). On the other hand, it is obvious that some hot topics in the news are liberally skewed. Topics such as abortion, gay rights, religion, and gun control are pretty much the only things that have a liberal bias. Choosing a political party is an important decision to make in today’s American society. The options for the political parties are Democrat, Republican, and Independent. Picking a political party can happen for some people at a young age. I chose my political party when I was 16 years old. I chose Independent. My parents are Democrats themselves. It makes for an interesting discussion at the dinner table when talking about politics. Some people will choose their political party for a few different reasons. Some people will choose their political party just to be the same thing as their parents, because they really believe in what either party is saying, and sometimes people feel pressured to do so.
The process of political socialization is not merely a quick development of ideologies, but an extended network of agents influencing us at every stage of our lives to implore us of good and proper behaviors and thought patterns to abide by. As stated in Texas politics, there is a difference in general socialization and political socialization, but both are significantly influential in our critical development patterns (3.1). General socialization begins in childhood with parents, grandparents, or caretakers. Simple verbal and nonverbal interactions taking place between those closest to us and our world around us creates ideas and beliefs and coaches us in how we should react to our environment. General socialization can be seen when children are punished for being inappropriate or impolite, or when their behaviors are reinforced by authority figures around them.
By definition, Political Socialization is the study of “the developmental process by which children of all ages and adolescents acquire political attitudes, behaviors and cognition.” In much simpler words, Political Socialization is information fed to a person throughout their entire life from peers, relatives, playgrounds, home, school, or other places which is how one forms opinions, views, and values. From this information, one can shapes his or her own political values based on what they have been taught to believe in or what they believe in. Indeed, there are many factors that play a part when and how these values are formed. Some can be because of historical events and others can be based on gender, religion or race.
Our political system is manipulated by the media because media plays big role in creating belief of voters and performances. Media is bias in the country with more freedom of the media than the country with less the media freedom. The effects of the media bias depend on how the audience process the information broadcast by media. Voters value more about political news because they use this information when voting. But, cost buying and reading newspaper seems unlikely to justify the benefit of choice made in the election it affecting voting, at least the case of fox news channel expansion.
