Police officers spend their time serving and protecting their communities providing citizens with a sense of security. Their role is to maintain the peace and public safety by reducing and preventing crime; specifically, police are responsible for patrolling, support services, investigating and apprehend offenders, providing emergency services, while maintaining a good community relationship. So should police officers be compared to warriors? I think so. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary (n.d.), a warrior is someone who uses skills and courage as they fight in battle. With that in mind, the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary definition of a warrior seems ambiguous in that the word “warrior” can be interpreted based solely on a person’s perception of the word. For example, a warrior to some may resemble that of a war like fighter with brutal tendencies. The pressed uniforms police figures are so commonly known for reflect those of our military personnel. Given these facts, organization is very important to police bureaucracy to efficiently follow and share information in an organizational fashion through lines of operational services, authority figures, and administration since many police departments must perform various duties (Walker & Katz, 2011). Of course, the police structure certainly seems to resemble our military other than they are hired and trained to serve and protect individual rights of society instead of fighting in war operations.
