There are countless innovative ways to share and communicate any type of news that has become abundant in most places in today’s world. However, this can sometimes bring a negative impact on our society and different aspects of everyday life. It becomes more easier to share news online and with a broad audience. This leads down to a spiraling epidemic known by a world as fake news. Fake news has been plaguing the news feed for centuries, and it continues to be abundant in news in the present, whether it would be in social platforms and online networks, to political speeches, to foreign countries that are publicizing countless amounts of hoaxes and fake news all over the internet. One example of this is Mr. Welch, the gunman who shot the pizzeria after he heard about a conspiracy theory about Hillary Clinton hosting a child sex ring downtown and Comet Ping Pong, which was believed to be the name of the Pizzeria. Edgar Allen Joe, the gunman,had “investigated false claims in online articles that the pizzeria was at the center of a child sex slave ring” Later through the week, he fired a gun into the pizzeria, intending to rescue the children. Court files suggests that he had “come armed to help rescue the children.” Fake news impacted this man’s life because the conspiracy theory about Hillary Clinton hosting a child abuse ring was the main trigger that had caused the man to come armed, hoping that he would help save the children and arrest Hillary Clinton. But if the news had not been posted, he would have not have felt the need to come for the children, especially with a gun, because he would have no reason to. Moreover, he discovered that the conspiracy theory was in no way true and accurate and there were currently no children at the time he was firing the gun into the pizzeria. Similarly, fake newscasts like this have changed the results of the election. Donald J Trump has exploited fake news much more frequently than the average politician, as well as a campaign that ‘supports’ Trump in the election. To show an example, a campaign hosted by Paul Horner was posting satire and false stories to phony websites to make fun of Trump. A few days later trump followers were found to” post everything, believe anything”. Given these facts, we can assume that since Trump followers believed that the false news was accurate, they have posted it all over Facebook.
