The Pixar film “Geri’s Game” is about an elderly man who plays himself in chess, “becoming” each of the players in turn by moving to the other side of the chessboard, where he changes his personality and either puts on or takes off his glasses to show this change. As the game progresses, it seems as if there are two people playing instead of just one. The aggressive Geri without glasses gains the upper hand over the more docile Geri with glasses. Geri without glasses captures everyone one of Geri with glasses pieces except for his king. However the docile Geri outsmarts aggressive Geri by faking a heart attack to sidetrack him and then he rotates the board around. Docil Geri now checkmates what is now his opponent's king. Finding now he is the one left with only one king and discoveries that he had been tricked, he resigns the game and hands over a set of false dentures as the payoff. It had many different lessons, it showed that you can be your best friend or your worst enemy, or that you should always try to better yourself in whatever you do. Both of these messages conveyed in the story, by Geri playing himself, he was promoting himself however he was also being his greatest enemy. Nevertheless the moral of short films is to send a message or a lesson and “Geri’s Game” did an outstanding job of doing that. Pixar’s “Geri’s Game” was a very educational short film and it showed many lessons for the viewers to learn. Short films are a wonderful way to send messages while still making it entertaining to learn. Furthermore Pixar has made many great short films with all different lessons to learn. It also causes you to look for the meaning of the film, which makes you more observant. Overall these films are a marvelous way to advise and enthrall kids and adults of all
