There are indeed many reasons why Pitbulls should not be banned and among these is the vicious nature of pit bulls. As much as there are those individuals who may argue that Pitbulls are not loving pets that only suffer negative publicity from the media, the facts on the ground speak a different story. Many individuals from different parts of the US have reported their pets being mauled to death by pit bulls and such cases just go to demonstrate the vicious nature of these animals. It is true that pit bulls tend to be very loyal and loving to their owners, but it is also true that these animals have powerful instincts that drive them to attack other dogs and even human beings. Not only are pets viciously attacked by pit bulls on a daily basis, but also human beings are also often attacked by pit bulls. This is especially true when people end up in territories that pit bulls believe are theirs. Unlike many other dogs species that may let go of a victim, a pit bull rarely lets go of its victim and its powerful grip often results in a fatality.Even though all these facts are true, I still don’t think that they should be banned. …show more content…
My first reason they should not be banned is that Pitbulls are great guard dogs. The reason they are great guard dogs is because they are very strong, fast & once they bite they are NOT letting go.Another reason they are great guard dogs is because Pit Bulls by nature are one of the most aggressive dogs.Once a Pit Bull is trained to be a guard dog they will be your loyal sentinel that watches your back, senses danger, alerts you of threats, and protects you by attacking intruders. Also through proper obedience training, your Pit Bull will learn to attack on your command and ignore commands and distractive treats from intruders. After all Pit Bulls are very smart so for that there is another reason they are good guard dogs, because they won’t fall in to intruders traps. My second reason they should not be banned is because Pit Bulls can be very helpful. In the blog it says “He once saved his entire Platoon by warning them of a poison gas attack.” He in this sentence is referring to Stubby the Pit Bull. They help their owners because they will intercede if someone messes with their owner. One final way that they are very helpful is that they are very obedient and will listen to people and do what they are told to do. The last reason I think they should not be banned is that if they are trained they can be very nice.It says “As working dogs, they were kept as hunters and guardians, as well as herders and pets.” So when they are hunters and all the others I mentioned they are nice but some attacks the Pit Bull could mistake humans for animals and accidentally attack them. Also when Pit Bulls are trained they are trained to be very loyal and protective of their owner.Lastly when they are trained they will still need to be rough when they need to but when they don’t need to they can be nice, friendly and playful. In my Opinion, Pit Bulls should not be banned.I think that they should be given a 2nd chance.I also think that they should be taken a different look at and should show people that they are not actually as bad as everyone says them so be.So I will keep strong on my opinion and I think that Pit Bulls Should NOT be banned! Those are the 3 reasons that I think Pitbulls should not be banned.
I believe that all people should be allowed to have any type of dog that they want. It’s just odd how people think that pit bulls are dangerous or vicious.
Pitbulls should be allowed as pets. They are a symbol of pride. According to the text it states in paragraph three “Pit bulls became a symbol of American pride, and their image was used on posters to recruit soldiers during World War One.” This practically means that the pit bulls are someone that was in the armed forces which is a dog serving for us and helping the soldiers.
They have twisted the dogs mind into thinking that they have to fight to protect something all the time. Pit bulls are classified as vicious and harmful animals. This is discrimination and is because of media skewing stories, ignorant people that refuse to listen to hard facts, and public attitudes and opinions. These laws against breeds are unconstitutional; there is no legislative basis for these laws. Pit bulls, like any other dog, grow in their temperament.
The misrepresentation of Pit Bull breeds in the media has been reflected in American culture. As these dogs were incorporated into World War I propaganda, they were perceived as symbols of courage and strength, the archetype of American dog breeds5. When, in the 1920s and 1930s, American Staffordshire Terrier “Pete the Pup” starred in the comedy Our Gang, later known as The Little Rascals, Pit Bulls were considered “nanny dogs” and family-friendly pets7. When the media focused heavily on illegal dog fighting rings and gang culture in the 1970s and 1980s, Pit Bulls were called demonic and unpredictable. Through their many roles, they have shown versatility and resilience, and lately they have suffered greatly.
Don't judge a book by its cover. Over the years, Pit bulls have gotten a bad reputation. It is true that there have been a lot of injuries , but have there been just as many injuries from other breeds of dogs. I think that if you raised them in a loving environment, trained properly, and if the media stopped over reporting injuries, this breed of dog would be more accepted by the public. Proving that Pit bulls get the short end of the stick and could make great pets.
One reason Pit Bulls should not be banned is because they can be very helpful to humans. For example, pit bulls were once kept as hunters and guardians. Today, they are even being used as service dogs for people in need. There was also a pit bull named, Stubby, who saved his entire platoon from a poisonous gas attack. (“Pit Bulls Haven’t Always Had a Bad Rep”). Pit bulls are also great dogs for companionship and to improve your quality of life. As you can see, pit bulls can be useful in many ways.
A menace to society, lurking in the streets, just waiting for its next victim? This couldn’t be further from the truth for most pit bulls. These fantasised versions plague the breed, outlawing them in many cities, states, and even some countries entirely. These bans are called Breed Specific Legislation (BSL), and in over 700 American cities these laws are in effect. They are in place to decrease the number of attacks by dogs.
Service dogs in school, what do you think of when you read these words? Bad occurrences of allergic reactions or people being scared out of their socks? Actually, these special dogs should be allowed in schools.
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. (Davis)
What do you think of when I say the word pitbull? Do you picture a cute happy dog, wagging its tail happy to see you? Or do you see a mad dog, foaming mouth lunging at small child? If you are a owner of a pitbull then you probably see the happy cute dog. But if you don't own one then chances are you see pitbulls as mean dogs who are a threat to society. The media has painted a picture in our heads that it's in a pitbulls blood to be aggressive. Due to this false accusation, certain cities have banned breeds labeled as “aggressive”. If someone is caught owning a banned breed, the dog is usually euthanized. This is known as Breed Specific Laws or otherwise known as BSL.
Since then, there has been a constant argument about whether or not this breed should be allowed to be kept as a pet. No one looks at pit bulls as normal dogs anymore. They are viewed as monsters. They have a crazy amount of strength, speed, and stamina. This can be used against them or for them depending on who is debating the issue of their legality.
Should Pit Bulls be banned? Many people will argue that the pit bull breed should be banned due to its vicious and unpredictable nature. There is a belief that they are inherently evil creatures and that they have a genetic predisposition to be destructive killing machines. In many states and cities, this has brought about breed specific legislation. Breed specific legislation bans or regulates the ownership of specific breeds of dogs, which almost always includes pit bulls.
Pit bulls have been known as “the pet” for drug dealers, and other bad people. They have been known to be “the pet” for those people because of the fact that they attack people and other animals. Bruce Goodwin once said,” You can say all you want about these other breeds, but ‘pit bulls’ are the choice for drug dealers and other bad folks for a reason.” If you want to keep people safe, a ban on pit bulls is the best idea.
Pit bulls and several other breeds of dogs that are thought to be overly aggressive and violent are being banned in cities and towns. Are pit bulls a dangerous breed or are they just like any other dog? Many people believe that they are in fact dangerous and aggressive by nature but this is not true. Pitt bulls are being falsely accused for being a violent breed and because of the negative aspects associated with the breed, such as dog fights and vicious attacks, they are being unfairly targeted in breed specific bans.
Specific Purpose: To bring attention to the issue of dog breed discrimination through Breed Selective Legislation (BSL) and inform the audience how they can change it.
