Introduction There exists various lifestyles and behaviours, ranging from amount of nutrition intake, mental well-being, to the amount of physical activity engaged individually. Weighing the abundance of factors, this essay primarily aims to focus on the aspect of physical activity in relevance to how it possibly affects one's lifestyle. By cross-referencing to other lifestyles and behaviours, this essay will also demonstrate the importance of physical activity in possibly alleviating the issues raised pertaining to other lifestyles as well. Throughout this essay, there will be frequent references to the socio-ecological framework in examining the aforementioned factors. Importance of Physical Activity Physical activity can be classified in two broad categories, namely the moderate level and vigorous level. Activities that fall into the moderate level include brisk walking, dancing, or low-impact aerobics; activities that fall into the vigorous level include swimming, jogging or sports such as soccer and badminton. From adolescence till old age, engagement in some form of physical activity is essential in maintaining one's health. I believe that physical activity will improve one's health in two aspects – the physical state of one's body, and the mental health of the individual, both of which are crucial in maintaining the well-being of a person, and taps onto other domains mentioned in the Healthy Lifestyle Index Report (such as BMI, sleep, stress and depression). With Singapore being a fast-paced society, family bonding is taken with less emphasis. In line with 2014 being the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family , the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) could collaborate more with Ministry of Health to organise more activities that can attain both their aims, of increasing family cohesion and improving the lifestyles of Singaporeans respectively.
