Photosynthesis is a process where organisms and plants use the energy from the sun to create a food source for others. Photosynthesis allows plants to make their own food without having to wait on others to provide it for them. It allows plants to generate oxygen as a byproduct for other organisms. Photosynthesis takes place on the leaves of plants. Each leaf is made up of individual cells that are called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts work to convert light energy from the sun to sugars that can be used by the cells. Each chloroplast contains chemicals that gives the plant the green color. The chloroplast also separates that light energy into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is then released back into the atmosphere and the hydrogen is kept
