Recommended: Animals being kept in zoos
Going to the zoo or circus with the family has always been a great activity. You get to spend time seeing the animals and having a laugh or two. However, have you ever thought about how the animals feel. Zoos are not able to provide sufficient space for animals, and often house them in small cages or too small of fenced areas. Circus animals are tortured by putting them in cages and forcing them to be entertainment. Animals in zoos are being exposed to many diseases and other dangers. That’s why the Canadian government should not allow animals to be kept for the purpose of entertainment or financial gain.
Contrary to popular belief the space zoos provide for the animals is not adequate for optimum health. Since zoos do not have sufficient
It’s always fun to go with your friends and family to see cute and exotic animals when you go to the zoo, right? You may think that they have the best life having people to give them things that want and to protect them, but some of them are actually suffering just for our amusement from being in that small enclosure all day and all night. Animals should not be put in zoos because they can develop many mental and physical health problems due to the absence of some natural necessities and they are not always treated as nice as you think.
Thousands of zoos worldwide are visited by citizens yearly to admire and satisfy their curiosity of the beautiful wild animals that mother nature has to offer. Zoos have been around for hundreds of years and have become a known tradition for numerous school field trips and family outings. The ongoing debate between animal rights activists and zoo officials remains, should wild animals be taken from their natural habitats to live in city zoos for education and entertainment purposes?
Zoo captivity is substandard and inadequate for animals. Zoo animals are deprived of their right as animals they are treated unjustly and unfairly. Animals should not be forced to kept in a cage away from their natural environment and be used as a form of entertainment to humans. The animals also suffer from stress and are driven insane by being trapped behind bars. The zoo is supposed to provide safety to these endangered animals but instead, these zoo animals are put at risk towards a variety of dangers such as vulnerability to diseases and starvation.
The topic of zoos is made to educate the people or simply just animal cruelty. Zoos contain many animals. From, elephants, lions, tigers, dolphins, otters, giraffes, chimpanzees and gorillas. These animals are accustomed to living in their natural habitat which is with no cages and are free to roam as they please. Zoos are miserable places for animals, according to CAPS.
Yet saving the animals does not seem to happen. Yet some animals from larger zoos do not provide for their animals, like the story of Twiggs and Jeffrey, “... two giraffes born at the Cape May County Zoo in New Jersey, were sold by the zoo to a broker who subsequently sold them to a traveling circus. The director... actually admitted to seeing the animals’ pitiful living conditions...”(Zoos). This shows that animals taken in to circuses and smaller zoos can still be mistreated and harmed. This is why American Zoo and Aquarium Association members do not sell animals to smaller zoos any more.
Millions of people visit zoos every year, not knowing that they can be very inhumane to most animals. Zoos may be a very good tourist attraction and a good field trip, that could be very educational if it is a good zoo, but they should not be allowed to carry all of the animals it does. With zoos carrying many different types of animals only certains should be held in the zoo. Only animals that are about to be extinct should be in the zoos. Since there are very few of an animal that is about to go extinct, it would be a very safe option to have them kept there.
Think back to your first time at the zoo with you family, you got to see all the birds, the tigers, the lions, the bears. It was a nice memory, but what if that zoo never existed? And those awesome lions you got to see? They went extinct because no habitats were built to repopulate. That’s what groups like PETA are proposing, they believe that animals will all survive if they are left in their natural habitats.
Even though some zoos have an endangered species exhibit with the intention of protecting and rehabilitating animals, many do not do an adequate job of protecting the animals. Zoos have been harmful to the very animals they have sworn to protect. Animals in captivity often suffer from anxiety, boredom and other severe issue related to prolonged confinement. Most animals are unable to thrive in small enclosure with unnatural weather and climates. For example elephants are known to walk as far as 30 miles per day, but the association of Zoos and aquariums only require a space the measures $0 feet by 45 feet, which is about the size of a three car garage, to house these large animals. (peta.org) the drastic difference in the amount of space their allowed ...
Do you remember going to the zoo as a child and seeing the animals sunbathing, nursing young, or playing with each other? Do you remember reading signs with fun facts about the animals? Do you also remember leaving the zoo knowing more than you did before you went? That’s what zoos do, but that’s not all they do. Not only do zoos find creative and fun ways to educate children, but they also save many animals that would not have lived without help.
Zoos do not make the best environment for animals. Zimmerman had stated in his article, “what we definitely know is that animals suffer in zoos-there are high mortality rates, there's injuries, and there’s depression.” Keeping animals in an enclosed takes away a big of their persona space that they would get if they were left in the wild where they belong. Animals living in a zoo do not get to use all of their natural instincts, therefore it is taking
Families strolling, children squealing , and adults gazing with interest; People go to zoos seeking entertainment; a way to see animals they never imagined being so up close and personal with. At least as personal as a someone can get with a two inch glass pane and fields of grass in the way. The zoo provides a fun and educational time for families, but the joy of seeing adorable creatures blinds people from realizing the pain zoo animals live with. Yes, from human perspective it seems very enthralling. But what about the animals actually inside these enclosures?
Established to display and study animals, zoos raised the opportunity for scientists to carry out research in first hand and the possibility to introduce other variables without being immerse in wild life. Besides, zoos became an amusing way of learning about different animals and a form of cultural entertainment. We also have to
In the last ten years over 7,000 rhinos have been poached, constantly putting the species in danger. While people are innocently hunting animals, some species are being put into danger. For example, the rhinos, if poachers do not stop hunting them they will soon all become extinct. Poaching will not stop; therefore, zoos become a safe haven for animals. They are able to see animals that normally are too far away. Zoos are also there for a lot of other reasons. One being the fact that without them, many animals would no longer be able to properly breed and produce. Zoos will help these animals reproduce and impact the population. Zoos are also trying to be more humane by making their home more natural by adding more nature and less contrasting colors. As well as giving up some animals like elephants due to the fact that there is no way to give them a natural home. These animals are being cared for and pampered throughout their life, as well as educate most visitors that come. Zoos are able to keep animals safe and make sure that they can have a nice long life while people constantly care and try to make their life better, although
Would you be willing to risk your fun and enjoyment for an animal’s happiness? Everytime families go to the zoo and give them money, they are making an animal suffer. The more money zoos get, the more animals are taken. Animals are depressed every day because they are being deprived of their rights; their right to be free. It’s obvious that zoos are harmful to animals because the animals become depressed, the scientists wouldn’t learn much, and because they are not prepared enough when they are released back into the wild.
There have been arguments on whether there should be zoo or not. I think that we should have zoos because it’s educational for all ages, also people can see all the different types of animals up close in person that they might not get to ever see in real life. Zoos are even helpful for some of the animals. The endangered animals like the golden frog is endangered in 2007 there was an fungal outbreak that spreaded throughout their habitat which made them extinct in the wild. But, the Zoos in the United States have been breeding them for years hoping that by maintaining genetic diversity in the species, they might eventually be able to reintroduce golden frogs to their native cloud forests in western Panama.
