Gay rights are a common topic in today 's news. All over the world people with these sexualities are having them taken away. The reason for all this is mostly due to the fact that people aren’t used to people having different sexualities. Children grow up very close-minded to the idea of people loving the same gender. If we can open the minds of the young then we can help stop this problem and help the poorly treated obtain the rights they deserve. The best way to do this, I believe, is starting with Children. The biggest problem in gay rights is the fact that people are afraid of what could happen if they receive these rights. Some people believe it could affect the marriage, or potential children in the family in a negative way by creating new fads and images of what a family is. This however is completely untrue. Research shows in the united states, around 1% of currently married same sex couples get divorced yearly. On average 2% of married straight couples in the United States divorce yearly. This shows that same-sex couple more unlikely to divorce than straight couples. On top of this, there are a much greater number of straight couples, than same sex couples, however due to the rate of change in marriage laws the …show more content…

Reasons ranging from religion to it leading to other non traditional relationships and therefore weakening the values of marriage. Many religions do not accept same sex couples, christianity for example clearly states that god feels that gay marriage is unnatural and a sin to do so. Other people feel that it simply doesnt work because you can not produce a child without one or the other, going back to their animalistic views. Its also widely believed that to raise a child, you need a mother and father. All of these issues no matter how dignified they may seem are simply not enough to hold someone from their rights.
