Why should teachers be inconvenienced? This is the question that came to mind when I was ask should school be lengthened so that students can get extra help with school work? As students, we are in school at least seven hours a day for five days a week, and that about 35 hours a week dedicated to educational studies. I feel that it is unnecessary. I have four reasons why I do not feel that extended school is necessary. These reasons are that students do not take education seriously, some students have obligations to their families, more cost to the schools budget, and teachers have a life outside of the classroom.

Extended hours would cost more money to run the school. Staff would have to work longer assist the students. It was founded that extending school would cost between 1,200 and 1,300 a student. Master level teachers would make about 20,000 dollars more a year. By the time students board the bus, attend extended school, and ride the bus home they would have been at it for about 12 hours. To avoid students reporting of being hungry, a snack should be provided in which more money will be required. My last reason is that teachers have a life outside of the classroom. Teachers devote so much of their time to their students already, why force them to spend more time at work. They spend hours coming up with assignment, projects, and test. Teachers already spend time from their families to plan special lessons and activities. Parents have a responsibility to educate their children as well. It should not be forced all onto the teacher. Teachers need time with their own families to create moments and memories and it is not fair that we take it from
Compulsory education laws define America’s adolescent people today. Without these laws many people wouldn’t get the education they need in life or for their future. Compulsory education helps people develop or expand many skills that they will need in life, such as social and thinking skills. By abolishing compulsory education laws in the United States people wouldn’t develop such skills or be prepared for life ahead of them. By removing this you would have a generation full of young people who wouldn’t know how to think.

Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that is it stupid.” Sir Ken Robinson stated that schools are destroying children 's creativity with their curriculum, there are many facts that support this idea. Students are required to think a specific way, prepare the way teachers want them to be prepared. Students also have their own opinion, because they are not afraid to be wrong, and need a way to move forward.
Since we established our first schools in America, we have been in a constant state of change. We have progressed from schools made purely to teach young white boys the bible so that they could become preachers, to schools that allow women, to schools that are made to prepare everyone for their future. Even though we have had an abundance of good change, we have also had an abundance of bad change. Education Reform, in concept, is a great idea. Society is changing so our schools should be changing at the same rate. Our schools are struggling and we need to work towards reforming them for the better. The problem is, this reform is being put in place and decided by people who have never taught a day in their life. There are many different examples of reforms put in place by people who have never taught, that are failing out students. No Child Left Behind, Common Core State Standards, Race to the Top, and other reforms are all examples of these failures. We need to look back on the mistakes that we have made through these reforms, and use this knowledge to improve future reform.
The arts department needs funding for the students and the students need supplies. some schools actually have trouble keeping the art department funded and still thinks it's important to keep due to the football and sports outcry when the sports teams gets a little budget cuts.The art department needs more funding in schools because kids need outlets to express their emotions.School district without the arts leave many students without an outlet for the creative capabilities and without options for expression of their talents. schools districts struggle to avoid deficit spending districts superintendents are looking for ways to save money.
Proper school funding is one of the keys to having a successful school. Americans believe that funding is the biggest problem in public schools. School improvements revolve around funding. There needs to be funding not only in the successful schools but also the schools that aren’t doing as well. In documentary, Waiting for Superman, it talks about how smaller class sizes will help students. Funding is what will help the smaller class sizes. State funding mechanisms are subject to intense political and economic scrutiny (Leonard). Studies have shown that funding is inversely related to accreditation levels (Leonard). School funding needs to be increased, but there must be accountability as well.
Teachers can work with the children and get to know what it is that is causing certain behavior and can help children in the long run. Children can be going through changes or issues at home and if they are going from problems at home to getting scolded or being put on time put at school it can cause long term damage. Children will feel as if they are always alone and would not know who to go to at the end of the day. Children need to be guided and the teacher can help that child and communicate with the parents about the differences between misbehavior and mistaken behavior. If what is being taught at home is different from what is being taught at school can cause complications to the child and their thought process. I feel that teachers would benefit from knowing the difference and going through certain classes just so they can learn the difference and how to work with children rather than dealing with them. Test scores are slowly declining across the United States. This is causing a consideration for a longer school year. If the school year calendar was elongated it would affect student learning, social life, and there would be some financial problems within schools.
Should school start at 7:00 or should it start later in the morning? In Douglas High School, start times are at 7:30 in the morning. Changing the school schedule to a later start time would result in many other changes affecting a lot of people. Schools can give responsibility to students but never without a cost. Students should have to chance to prove their worth to schools and show how responsible they can be as adults. When students go to college classes as high schoolers they sometimes tend to have more free time during those times. If a child has enough responsibility to take those classes they should have enough to leave school and be trusted to come back to school after their free time is over.
