My mom was a hard worker when I was a child. She worked Monday-Friday from 6am-6pm at a nursing home and on Sundays she worked for a church. Even though she was always at work we still didn’t have a lot of money. We didn’t have a lot of money to afford a lot of things such as a babysitter. Age really shouldn’t determine a person's ability or maturity when it comes to this sort of thing. Some kids and younger teens really don't make good babysitters, but some make better babysitters than a lot of adults. It really depends on the individual and their maturity but I'm sure most parents would make sure that they know a person is responsible before hiring him/her to do the job.

The first things teens think of for their future are going to college and getting their first car. But, let’s say there’s a well educated thirteen-year-old, raised in a low-income family, who has plans on going to college. There’s no way their family can support him to go to college, and its funds could be over-whelming. The only way they could go to college is if they started saving at an early age. Therefore, if they got a job at the age they were at now, they’d be on their way to college by the time they graduate high school. Or, another example would be, if a teen wanted to get their first car on their sixteenth birthday. As you may know, many teens don’t get things handed to them on a silver platter, so they’d have to buy that car themselves. They might be old enough to drive, but they just turned the legal working age. Once they get a job, they’d have to wait at least a year to have enough money for the car as well as its insurance.
Babysitting was a normal weekend activity in my life but I always watched kids at the ages where they could tell me what I wanted until a family had a new born and desired me to babysit their month old baby. The first night babysitting was very difficult because all the baby did was cry constantly. I felt anxious because I felt like there was none thing I could do to comfort this baby but after trial and error all the sudden the baby stopped crying. This baby didn’t cry the rest of the night and after a few more baby sittings I knew mostly what each cry meant so that I could address the baby’s needs. In an opposite article named “Working in high school doesn’t pay off the way it used to,” by Allison Schrager, argues differently than Knepper and states that working has died out and it is not worth a teenagers stressed, already busy, life. While working as a teen can be hard, the pros are far greater than cons including the extra money, experience, and people you can meet. This can provide a huge advantage for a teenagers future, and is therefore the obvious better option to participate in a part time job during high school (Greenberger).
