Responsibility is an important thing when it comes to babysitting. It all started during the 09’ summer vacation, when I wanted to babysit for some extra money to go shopping with my friends that were going to come visit me all the way from Canada. I knew that my neighbors were going out to San Francisco for about six hours, and couldn’t find a babysitter yet. So, I asked my mom if I could go next door and ask them. She said I could, and I had my first summer job.
The day they were leaving, I went ahead and packed everything I needed, and since I really had no experience on babysitting, I spent the night before searching fun activities I could do with the kids. The childcare facility is open 24 hours a day 7 day a week, with a total of twenty children ranging from the ages of 3 to the age of 7. My amount of time I volunteered was a total of twenty hours, my obligations included, watching and screening youngster’s play exercise’s, keeping records on individual youngsters, including everyday perceptions and data about their play time, suppers served and medicines managed. My duties also included controlling rest periods, read to the children, and show them basic painting, drawing, crafted works, and songs.
Throughout time children have worked myriad hours in hazardous workplaces in order to make a few cents to a few dollars. This is known as child labor, where children are risking their lives daily for money. Today child labor continues to exist all over the world and even in the United States where children pick fruits and vegetables in difficult conditions. According to the article, “What is Child Labor”; it states that roughly 215 million children around the world are working between the ages of 5 and 17 in harmful workplaces. Child labor continues to exist because many families live in poverty and with more working hands there is an increase in income. Other families take their children to work in the fields because they have no access to childcare and extra money is beneficial to buy basic needs. Although there are laws and regulations that protect children from child labor, stronger enforcement is required because child labor not only exploits children but also has detrimental effects on a child’s health, education, and the people of the nation.
Christopher Hibbert’s The English: A Social History, 1066-1945, harshly reflects child labor. The author uses graphic details to portray the horrible work environment that the children, sometimes as young as four and five, were forced to work in. Hibbert discusses in much detail the conditions the children work in, the way they are mistreated, and what was done to prevent child labor.
We need to give responsibility to our child because they are taking risk and assuming responsibility which often go hand in hand for Example “giving a child her first pocket knife at, say age 9 not only gives her the advantage of experiencing a little risk play with a sharp object. It signals that she’s responsible for keeping herself and other safer”. (Michael Ungal 28). In some case that experience allow to see them unsure about whether their child is competent enough to keep herself safe or responsibility freedom to play for our children alone and climber in the trees that allow advantage to take a good decision in grow up when we don’t say with it. Also when our children going to grow up is good decision too orient about your education because is one decision than they need to take, the parent don’t allow take decision about it, because when their children don’t take that thing they like or can be person frustrate in the future. Why are children being forced into labor in todays society? Childhood is a vital and powerful experience in each individual's lifetime. It is the most important and impressionable period of learning. Throughout all of the highs and the lows, childhood is remembered forever. Although children have many rights, in some developing countries these rights are not always protected. Older, manipulative adults are taking advantage of children to make a profit for themselves. This is known as child labor, and it happens much more than many people realize. The Freudian super ego is appalled that, especially in the modern world, there would be such a preposterous issue. The Freudian id would rationalize numerous reasons, even justifications, of why child labor exists and would be necessary. Every corner of the earth has known this conflict to one degree or another. In the United States, the conflict is activated or denied with the purchase of an expensive sneaker. The child who is exploited on the other side of the world rarely receives a nod of concern for the slavery he endures. Countless items are similarly purchased with similar child working conditions. The children of note are under fifteen years of age and economically active. There are 120 million of these exploited human beings who work full time, often ten hours per day.
The next time when you are out on your shopping trip, chances you may have support a business that exploits children. It is very disturbing and heartbreaking to learn many children are chained to looms for 12 hours a day because families need to have their child bringing home a small amount of moneys. Child labor has always been a difficult subject to address, the topic have become much more complicated and prolific.
Child labor is inhumane and many children all over the world are being forced to work long hours without pay and in dangerous conditions. Child labor exists because of the high rates of unemployment and in countries where you find civil war. Many children work in such places such as factories, sweatshops, mines, fields, hotels, or in households as servants. Forced child labor should be illegal because it is against human rights and takes away the innocence of children who will grow up with little or no childhood. Forced child labor can be found in many places all over the world and it is mostly centralized in Asia. It is more common in societies where people are uneducated or who live in a lower class society that tends to force children to work. Despite having laws forbidding the practice of forced child labor, the number for child victims is increasing everywhere. More needs to be done to enforce laws to protect children from this cruel life.
Because of my early interest in children, I developed a strong desire to teach; consequently, I sought out jobs that allowed me varied experiences with children. My first experience was baby-sitting. Here I quickly learned that children must be told precisely what to do. For example, "Go wash your hands with soap and dry them right now." Or, "You must take your shoes off and then you may get into the bathtub." From the many baby-sitting jobs I had, I soon discovered that if I did not have a plan the day would be total chaos. As early as thirteen I became familiar with the need for structure and creativity when dealing with younger children and found myself loving every minute of it.
While the working conditions for children in Europe during the Industrial Revolution were hazardous and sometimes fatal, the era was only capable of the extraordinary profits and accomplishments it achieved because of child labor. They achieved the feats that they did because of the wide array of labor the children performed in factories, coal mines, and cotton mills.
Early in December, I concluded the first semester of the school year and was looking forward to the holiday break that lay ahead. Although, with Christmas three and a-half weeks away, I still hadn’t save up the amount of money I planned to spend on gifts for the holidays. Struggling to reach my goal, I began to look for alternatives to a traditional job. In order to earn the money in record time, I mustn’t deter myself from my goal, even if my job options were narrow. With that in mind, I asked my friends and mom if they knew of anybody looking for an occasional babysitter.
The first responsibility that I think is very important is being a good example for your kids. Parents are examples for their kids whether they like it or not. My boys watch and copy everything that I do, and even if I don’t think their listening they are listening. If they see me finishing school and working a good job that’s what they will expect to do themselves because that is all that they know. Children are like sponges. I want to show my kids how to be a good person by being a good person myself. As a parent I want my children to know that they can be anything they want to be, but at the same time I am controlling their physical and moral environment so that they can be good people. I want them to be in an environment where they can develop habits of honesty, generosity, and responsibility.
My responsibilities in my childhood were very simple and care free. My chores were to do my homework, wash the dishes, clean my room and vacuum the entire house. I was not responsible for anything or anyone. I was free to be a child and to have fun. I didn’t have to pay any bills and no one was depending on me. Child labor is one of the biggest concerns occurring around the world. Over one hundred million children work in dangerous conditions in agriculture, mining, and other sectors. People around the world are working to end child labor and help them reunite with their families as well get them an education. Child labor violates human rights due to its inhumane actions that result in the amount of casualties, injuries and poverty. This global issue cannot be resolved unless laws and regulations are reinforced strictly.
