Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing

Every year, millions of animals are injured or killed in scientific experiments across the world. Those in favor of animal experimentation say they’re taking animals’ lives to save humans. But is it really necessary to subject animals to torturous conditions or painful experiments in the name of science? Is it ethical to destroy an animal’s life while simply testing lipstick or shampoo? Animal experimentation, like many of the issues we face today, is difficult to argue against, and just as hard to support, but it is necessary to continue this experimentation in order to advance human knowledge and to help save human lives. Live mammals make up the majority of testing for medicine. This is because of the simple fact that nothing compares to testing on living, breathing organisms. The inner workings of a rat and human are similar in all ways that matter, so they are used to demonstrate how drugs affect the body. One huge reason to test these drugs on living things is to detect if these drugs actually do work in the organism, and how soon it shows symptoms of getting back to better health. Also, with symptoms, we are also able to …show more content…

When it comes to feeling like pain, hunger, and thirst, “a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy” (Monagle 1). In other words, animals feel pleasure and pain in much the same way as humans. And while this is a major focus of the fight against animal experimentation, this is extremely helpful to the medical testing community. Because of this, we are able to very effectively see how animals react when given said drug. Effects like aggressive or hostile behavior, changes in mood, insomnia, involuntary tics and twitching, itching, and nervousness are very common when it comes to drug use. Consequently, we have to be able to use animal testing to make sure we don’t give humans these drugs without them knowing of these possible side
