Recommended: A thesis statement about puppy mills

“Every year in the U.S., more than 6 million, lost, abandoned, or unwanted dogs and cats enter animals shelters” (Companion Animal Overpopulation). Once these dogs and cats cannot find a home after a certain time, they are euthanized due to overcrowding. This is a growing concern nowadays. There are so many wonderful dogs waiting to find their forever home, with so many reasons to adopt over buying from a breeder. Some of these reasons include: you get to pick the age, they tend to be healthier, house trained, and most importantly, you're saving a life.
One of the most important reasons to adopt rather than to buy from a breeder, or pet store is that you're saving a life. You're not only saving one life but many. If you were to adopt a dog from a shelter, you're rescuing that dog and creating more space for other dogs to be rescued off the streets. There is an …show more content…

Some insist on shelters being filled with mutts and only mutts. This statement is a myth. If you are one who wants a purebred, it's still possible for you to find a loving purebred, that’s looking for a loving home, from a shelter. You only have to look harder to find the one and using a little bit of your time to find a loyal companion. Now, adopting a dog from a shelter requires more work due to some of the dogs going through traumatizing and carrying this baggage with them to their new home. If you really love dogs, and you really love this dog you adopted, then you will want to do whatever you need to help improve their happiness. People are also against adopting because they think there are many health risks with dogs that have been abused or are older. Now, this can be true sometimes but most shelters provide veterinary clinics and provide care when issues arise. Shelter dogs are also cheaper in price, so if you really want a loyal companion but cannot afford to pay $100-2,000 to buy the dog, then adopting is a great

In addition, only 56% of dogs and 71% of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized.
