Persuasive Essay – Native Son – Option #2
Bigger did not have a fair trial. On a Saturday, Bigger learned that he would have a job as a chauffeur for a millionaire family; he takes the job after rejecting the temptation to rob Blum's deli. Early Sunday morning, Bigger returns Mary Dalton to her home, accidentally suffocating her. Later Sunday, Bigger visits Bessie, forges a ransom note, discovers the "discovery" of Mary's earrings in the ash, returns to Bessie and rapes and kills her. Monday, Bigger is on the run and he is caught that very night. His inquest is on a Tuesday, his trial is on a Wednesday, and his execution is to be "on or before midnight," Friday. He was tortured his fingernails have been ripped out.
Bigger’s confession was coerced. State Attorney Dalton assures Bigger that he has no need for tactics and that the young man is as already caught so he might as well confess. Buckley warns Bigger that it will be better for him to confess. He describes Bigger as a wayward youth who has broken his mother's heart and surely, if he might escape the justice of the state, he would meet a far worse fate at the hands of the angry, frothing mob that is only growing. Buckley tells Bigger the police know that Bigger raped her and that he threw her body in an airshaft. Buckley suggests that Bigger's only way out is to confess, admit who helped him commit the crimes and settle for spending the rest of his life in a "hospital." Bigger confesses to the crime, denying his insanity and the existence of any accomplices. Buckley is joined by a "man with a pad" who records Bigger's confession and after they leave, Bigger is alone in his cell. He hears them joking outside the cell about how "easy...

...gger explains that he neither loved nor hated her; his hate is reserved for whites mostly, because they "own every thing" and prevent him from being able to live freely. He had to kill her because "she was killing [him]." He is told to "stay in a spot" and Bigger confesses that he was simply unable to live that sort of life adding that after committing the murders, he felt a sort of freedom that he had not experienced.
Bigger focuses on the question of "What would you have liked to do, if you were allowed to?" explaining to Max that nobody had ever asked him what he wanted to do, and so he had never spent serious time contemplating a future. Bigger shouts "How can I die?" His concern is not his own physical death, but the fact that he has lived his life around people who "didn't see him" and hated him, denying him an opportunity to reveal his potential for humanity.

In Book 3, “Fate”, Bigger is now convinced that he is going to die for the crimes he have committed. “They don’t give black people a chance, so I took a chance and lost. But I don’t care none now. They got me and it’s all over.” (pg. 356) This book reveals Bigger’s realization of what he has done and how it will affect him. We find out that he is sentenced to death and he will not live for long. For some odd reason, Bigger has a sense of satisfaction and security knowing that he will die. “Aw, I reckon I believe in myself…. I ain’t got nothing else…. I got to die….” (pg. 428).
Immigration is the greatest part of American history. In the beginning, Immigrants brought a vast variety of cultures and beliefs and turned America in to the beauty it is today. Immigrants are still doing this. However, the issue with immigration can be it 's illegal status. Many undocumented immigrants are entering this country causing questions among the American citizens. Rather than asking if this is right or wrong, a solution can be found. Illegal immigrants come here for a purpose and can be helped with this purpose. Most come fleeing persecution, although some come here for more demented reasons. Those, illegal immigrants will be done away with. However, Those immigrants who come here for pure reasons need to be taken Care of in proper
First off, let’s just start by saying within the confines of the United States illegal immigration is not really illegal due to many different factors. Currently in the United States illegal immigrants receive healthcare, social security, unemployment and other forms of benefits provided by the US government “for its people”, which are funded by the citizens of the United States through their tax dollars but illegal immigrants do not pay taxes, they simply collect and piggyback off the rest of us. Not only that though with the increase of illegal immigrants comes an increase in the unemployment rate, the amount of illegal immigrants coming over each year, and taxes as we must pay for people that don’t belong here. If you were to trespass in a foreign country for instance let’s say Russia as soon as you step foot on their soil you’re “banned from the country for 10 years and you can receive up to a six month prison
When people first stepped foot on American soil as pilgrims, and eventually established a great nation, it was known as the land of the free. Now, when you look at America, it is considered to be a nation of immigrants. Today, in 2014, we have Americans that are mad with immigrants trying to get into this country, as they are taking our jobs away from us. On the other hand, you have those Americans who yearn for their far off families and friends to come to America from other countries to pursue a better life and utilize the opportunities America offers which their current locations cannot. Why should we let these people into the country without forcing them to first go through all the proper legal actions? It’s great that
The U.S. govemment has faced the struggle for various decades to put an end to unauthorized immigration from Mexico and into the United States. Immigration as a whole has increased from 71,877,120 in 1960 to 213,316,418 in 2010 according to the data created and also reported by the World Bank. The government has made multiple attempts to stop the immigration process by implementing harsher measures along the U.S. and Mexico border and at work sites across the entire country. These measures however, have failed to end unauthorized immigration as a whole as immigrants still find a way to sneak by, settle, and make a living.. Americans who have a reason to oppose immigration argue that the safety and the strength of the nation’s economy are greatly threatened. However, strong supporters argue that instead of damaging and putting the economy at risk they provide a more stable environment.
Bigger’s decisions had their own snowball effects. He decided to kiss Mary, decided to unintentionally smother her, and try to hide his tracks making him a murderer. Lying to the police made him a killer on the run. Forcing his girlfriend to have sex with him gave him a different person he had to get rid of. The racial pressure and control caused him to make reckless decisions without thinking about the consequences. He believes hes alone in life but by the end of the book he realizes that his actions not only affected himself but the people around him. He hurt his mother and he made his siblings lives more difficult. He let the fear of society influence his thoughts and actions. This created how his fate was going to be chosen. It became a vicious cycle for him. Every time the fear of society got to him he reacted impulsively therefore worsening his already set fate. In Native Son by Richard Wright, it displays how society influences everyone’s decision whether good or bad. It sets the standards which no one can achieve and sets fear in the hearts of everyone in the community. While Bigger Thomas does many evil things, the immorality of his role in Mary Dalton’s death is questionable. His hasty decision to put the pillow over Mary’s face is the climax of a night in which nothing has gone right for Bigger. We feel sympathy because Bigger has been forced into uncomfortable positions all night. With good intentions, Jan and Mary place Bigger in situations that make him feel "a cold, dumb, and inarticulate hate" (68) for them. Wright hopes the reader will share Bigger’s uneasiness. The reader struggles with Bigger’s task of getting Mary into her bed and is relieved when he has safely accomplished his mission.
All three of the main female characters are treated in a way that many would consider rude towards any human being, despite their various classifications. Big Mama has to constantly endure Big Daddy’s cussing and ungrateful behaviour towards her. She shows him as much love as one person can show, and in return, she is certainly notified of the want for her to be gone from Big Daddy. In Act two, it is also assumed her somewhat “bossy” behaviour is her wanting to take over the plantation when, in reality, it’s how she shows she cares. It is also assumed she doesn’t love Big Daddy even though everything she does is essentially to please him and make him happy. This is explicitly shown in the last act after she finds out Big Daddy definitely has cancer and she is even more willing to stand up for Big Daddy when it becomes obvious Mae and Gooper are just trying to take over control of the plantation when he dies, when he hasn’t died yet. She asserts her position as his wife with pride. The treatment of Maggie doesn’t come from Brick, who treats her in an ignorant fashion through virtually silence, but more so from the rest of his family. She is treated different because she has not yet had children. This causes many unfair and uncalled for statements concerning her ability to be a good wife and her personality. She is seen as a bad woman by the majority of the family when in
...eads to him killing Mary and Bessie. He has no remorse because white society has none for him. He knows he was dead the minute he was born. Bigger realizes what the blind people surrounding him do not! He knows he can do nothing; he might as well go out fighting.
Illegal immigrants are makers, not takers. Many American citizens see these approximate 11 million illegal immigrants in a negative view and don’t want them living in their communities. However, many of these American citizens don’t know why illegal immigrants come here and what good they actually do to this country. Illegal immigration should be allowed because their quality of life is improved, they help the economy, and they bring job growth.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.

Because Bigger knows if he gets discovered in her room he will be accused of trying to rape her and will jailed and very likely executed just because he is black. His only other choice was to do what he did, but unluckily he unintentionally kills Mary making his path to failure even greater. All of this happens because Bigger is afraid. Bigger faces fear all throughout the story and his fear comes from him feeling that white people are out to oppress him and he can not doing anything about it. Richard Wright uses Bigger in his story to show how society of that time period put fear into black society. Bigger’s fear is what takes him down the path of the dooms which eventually causes him to harm, his friends, other black people, and kill to young girls one being his girlfriend and the other the daughter of his employer.
Immigration, the leaving of one 's homeland to build a life in another country, was not a new concept by the late 1800s. Foreigners had been leaving their homelands for the United States for decades before. Since then Immigration has been a major issue in the United States. This phenomenon is not new and thousands of illegal immigrants have come into United States through either the Mexican border, the Pacific Ocean, and through many other ways. However, some of the immigrants are undocumented, they should be allowed to stay in the United State because of some reasons such as, religious freedom, another one would be opportunity, and run to seek shelter.
