In November 1944, the term “vegan” was coined by Donald Watson. He wanted to create this term because even though vegetarians do not eat meat, they still eat dairy and eggs. He wanted “vegan” be the term to describe the people who did not consume meat, eggs, or dairy. Today, vegan is used to describe a diet or lifestyle that does not include any animal products in general. A diet without meat, dairy, eggs, or any other animals products is argued on whether or not it is a sustainable and healthy way of living.
Like many things in life, there are people who believe in and support the vegan diet for an everyday lifestyle, along with people who are against vegan diets and do not think this is a healthy or sustainable diet plan for everyday life.

Vitamin may help prevent or impede the development of certain cancers, such as heart disease, or other diseases where oxidative stress plays an occasional role. Another advantage to a vegan diet in children is, they are exposed to a wide variety of whole plant foods during their childhood which helps them establish good eating habits that will be beneficial to their health throughout their life. Some disadvantages of a vegan diet in children are that the diet can be too restrictive and cause issues with growth and development if it is not planned well. Also, there is some concern that a vegan diet may have a potential to mask eating disorders in the future of that child’s life. However, a child raised on a vegan diet can prove to be just as healthy as a child raised on a standard diet. As true with any diet, an unbalanced vegan diet lacking in necessary vitamins and minerals or having excess fat can lead to an unhealthy child and because children have smaller appetites and with the range of food available to eat already limited it might be hard to find food they will eat (Mann). This makes raising a child on a vegan diet a little more difficult than raising a child on a standard diet but not impossible. “Many dieticians believe it is possible to bring up a healthy vegan child [but] ... ‘you do have to make sure you know what you are doing.’(Mann).” With a vegan diet that is, on its own, restrictive a parent just has to ensure that their child is getting everything they need just like an adult on a vegan diet. Children have more nutritional requirements to ensure that they get enough of what they need you just have to plan each meal. Nut butters are extremely rich in protein and many grains are calcium fortified. There are also meat substitutes made of beans, soy, and vegetables that can appeal to children and are full of many of the vitamins a vegan could need. It is perfectly safe for a child to be raise vegan as long as they are consuming a proper balance of what they need
The main health benefit is that a vegan diet is richer in certain nutrients. When ditching a typical western diet, you will find yourself in more of a whole-food plant based diet that consist of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, peas, nuts and seeds. These foods contribute to a higher daily intake of beneficial nutrients. According to (Petre, 2016) “Several studies have reported that vegan diets are more likely to provide more fiber, antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds. They also appear to be richer in potassium, magnesium, folate, and vitamins A, C and E.” b.
People are unaware of the harsh effects of meats. They contain toxic fats and hormones not intended for human consumption. Each year seven million people die from cancer internationally. However, a change into a healthier diet, such as veganism, can lengthen people's lifespans. Due to the low-fat, high-fiber diet, the vegan diet has a tendency to prevent cancer. Veganism has been proven to prevent certain cancers, studies show that veganism hinders the development of cancers such as breast, cervical, ovarian, and prostate cancer. Not only does veganism prevent diseases such as cancer, it also improves one's physical and mental health. The elimination of the animal products will cause one's Body Mass Index (BMI) level to change. Fattening food consumptions of meats can cause weight gain. Therefore, the elimination of these unhealthy proteins helps with weight loss. Along with a positive body image, not supporting the inhumane slaughtering of innocent animals could ease one's conscious. However, without meat, vegans aren't able to consume the right amount of nutrients that non- vegans get. For an example, vegans do not get cobalamin (B-12) naturally because it is only in animal by products. Vegans can always take vitamins to fix this problem. Also, they do not receive a lot of calcium, vitamin D, and iron, but just like they take supplements, or eat fortified foods, as a substitute for cobalamin, is the same way they are able to fix these other problems. For those who do not know what a vegetarian is or are confused on what they do or eat let me inform you that being a vegetarian simply means that you go off of plant-based diets. Although there are several kinds of vegetarian diets, it is all based on what type of food you are consuming. For example, a strict vegetarians or vegans avoid all foods of animal origin, including meat, poultry, fish, diary products, and eggs. Vegan life is healthier for the nutritional benefits are better when compared to non-vegan eating. The majority of people in the world consume a diet, which contains food derived from animals. Those who have animal derived diets follow such a diet due to commonly known nutrition benefits and taste that come with the diet. Although, most people were told that such a diet was healthy, they wouldn’t follow such a diet if they knew the harm that came with it. Furthermore, several people know they require fruits, vegetables, and grains, according to the commonly known food nutrition chart. However, some people do not know that animal derived food is not necessary and that there are other healthier foods to replace them. Overall, the medical community has agreed that veganism is a healthy option to avoid disease, but their concerns are that vegans will be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals that the regular omnivores are not deficient in.
